Monsal trail is quite long path about 8 miles for walkers cycling horse riding and wheelchair users. Mostly is on former railway line between Blackwell and Bakewell. The route is pretty flat and leads through few old railway tunnels and bridges. Recommended when visiting Bakewell.

A very nice route for hiking and biking tours. The bicycle route is quite simple on a flat surface, so even people who do not have a lot of experience can handle it without any problems. The bottom" route along the river provides much better views but is more difficult. At the beginning of the route there is a small cafe

Great little trail for short walks or longer cycles. Runs all the way from Chee Dale on the outskirts of Buxton to Bakewell. There is limited parking at the beginning of the trail (at the Buxton end) and it fills up quickly on nice days, but a couple of miles up the trail is Millers Dale Station which has a bigger car park with disabled bays and access to a lovely cafe and toilets on the old train station platform. This is also the best place for wheelchair users to access the trail as the Chee Dale end requires walking up a very steep slope past the bike hire place to get onto the trail. Once on the trail it is a flat gravel path great for bikes, pushchairs and wheelchairs as well as being dog Walker friendly. The old train tunnels have had the railed tarmacked to make a nice easy surface to ride/walk/push someone on and are illuminated inside to allow the public to go through them and follow the trail through to Bakewell.

Good size car park, fairly reasonable. Cafe and toilets in original station building. Access straight onto the trail. Turn left and walk towards the old mills, now converted into living accommodation. Turn right and head towards monsal head, probably the more interesting direction.

We had a very enjoyable walk here at the weekend. It was our first visit to the Monsal Trail. We parked at the Miller's Dale car park which is pay and display but does take cards and cash. £4 for up to 4 hours is plenty of time to explore or £2.50 for a couple of hours. We walked down on the Riverside and over to Chee Dale by the stepping stones. It was very muddy and slippy on this route as prone to flooding in rainy season. I would park this route for a drier time but I would thoroughly recommend it.You can keep along the flat and explore the tunnels which is perfect for young kids, cycling and running. And there is plenty of space for dogs to have a run round. There is a cafe and toilets at the car park as well which is well needed after a good walk!

Absolutely incredible walk Monsal trail with loads of amazing stuff to explore. One of them little hidden gems that has so much to look at. I loved having a look at the old kiln mill, going inside and at the top and walking through the tunnels mid way through. Felt brilliant, is easy paced for family's and is a fantastic trip out.My only negative side about it is of course the car park. Good luck getting in as it not big enough for the amount of cars that want a nice day out and its a shame. If you are one of the lucky few to own an electric car then they have take about 6 or 7 slots out the car park exclusive for you guys, better placed as well than the disability spots which is disgusting. Typical of the badly run council who are useless at doing anything right. If you can get in here though great day out!

Absolutely amazing place there are so many interesting things to see .It's definitely not for the faint hearted there are some challenging parts to this walk if your wanting to venture down to the stepping stones .you need to arrive at carpark early as its not very big so gets busy .

Millers Dale is a honey pot for groups of friends and family adventures, or just take a short stroll and relax. There's the Refreshment Room Cafe on the station platform, the Anglers Rest down by the river a short walk away, the Monsal Trail to cycle, run or walk, and for the adrenaline junkies and families after an adventure, Abseiling Derbyshire!

Old railway line converted to walking and cycling. Can be busy on a weekend making progress slow. Great views and interesting old infrastructure. Lights are useful on your bike with all the tunnels. Road links for onward cycling are not well developed at the far end - plan carefully if attempting to do a loop as you may end up pushing your bike up a bridleway for a little while.
