The Dower House was a plain brick building that was transformed with a decorative columned facade in 1803. The ha-ha in front of the house stopped the cattle from grazing on the formal lawns, making a barrier which cannot be seen from the house. In 2004 the house became the home of the Manchester and District Beekeepers Association and is furnished with an observation hive, equipment and displays with an apiary in the garden behind the house.

I love it there. You get to see working bees. Max time you can spend there is 20mins. It's next to the play area and the animals so adds to the heaton park experience

Dower house it at the top of a small hill within Heaton park. It is fairly easy to get too and the hill is not steep. There is not a great deal to do up there however, it could have been the time of year but there seemed to be nothing to see at the property itself. The views of the park and Manchester were good though. The rest of the park is more interesting so I would suggest staying there, but if you want to see it all then head up.

If you are interested in bees then this is the place to go. Really helpful, nice people here. Lots of info' and pictures on bees. Loads of beehives. Even a beehive behind glass in the office. The bees come and go to this small hive and do there bee stuff. Saw the Queen Bee and witnessed my first Waggle Dance. This is a really interesting place for everyone and I'm sure chidren would love it. Bought some of their honey and it is really nice. Only open Sundays i think between 12:00 and 4:00 in Summer. Give it a go.
