Middlefields Recycling Village

Went to the tip today and was told I needed to book a slot. I knew nothing about bookings which apparently came into effect last September. It would have been nice to have this sort of information disseminated to the general public before filling a car full of waste and getting told by a jobsworth more interested in what's on his phone than anything I had to say, to go away. I've asked around and nobody I have asked was aware of this rule change. They all thought it was still based on number plates.I can imagine there is a lot more fly tipping in South Tyneside than there used to be!

Booked two time slots for today and both times, straight in, sorted and out. Young lad, very pleasant and extremely helpful on both visits. I believe in giving credit where it’s due, so before leaving, asked for his name. This young lad ( CAV ) is an absolute credit.

As a taxi driver we are not able to book a slot as website thinks we have no mot even though we get two mots a year.The silver haired guy is very grumpy when I told him I had hedge trimmings he growled at me I would have to take them out of the bags,when I told him they were not in bags he growled but I have just swept up.He was very unwelcoming even complaining I was5 mins early.

Great experience today when arriving at middlefields with a quite unmanageable amount of wood which I was anxious about unloading on my own. A lovely young gentleman Cavan was so helpful and courteous, great fun and so helpful and approachable! Made a rather stressful venture good fun and I came away smiling feeling so uplifted by his really helpful and friendly approach! Great service! Thank you for making my stressful day a little bit brighter!

I would like to praise the staff at the recycling village in Middlesfields South Shields. Firstly the new system for booking a slot is superb and stops you having to wait in traffic queues and avoids congestion in this area. Secondly, the person who greets you as you enter is a lovely polite and pleasant man. The other gentleman who checks that your booking is valid is also fabulous. Two other members of staff helped me to lift some of my rubbish and the site manager was also there checking on how people found the new service. Honestly, everyone who I encountered today who worked there was professional, polite and helpful. I am very impressed and I do hope that you share this feedback with the staff at the recycling village and give them the praise they deserve. Many thanks. Lynne Jobling.

Initially made the mistake of turning up without a booked slot but the guy had a friendly manner and was polite so I made a mental note to do my research next time and drove home. He had said it was easy to book a slot and it was. I went back the next morning to find the same guy there to help direct me to the appropriate skips as well as help me unload my boot. The booking system may not be as widely known as it should be but I think it definitely makes it easier overall. A limited number of people and cars make it easy to navigate especially if you have multiple different materials to get rid of. My only disappointment was not being able to visit the shop as I noticed it too late on my way out. I've never been to a tip that has a shop before but I think it's a brilliant idea.

The booking system is pointless and doesn't work. Whoever put this is practise should be sacked. Made the booking yesterday for today at 10.30am. Turned up 10.25am and 9 cars in the queue in front of me and a the whole length of the tip full. You have two guys at the entrance with phones checking that your car is booked which only takes one and eventually when you get to the front you notice the car pull in areas are absolutely filthy with all types of debris. I noticed 3 nails in different spots where you pull in so that area which needs regular sweeping is not being done enough. One van emptied all there rubble all over the floor and wouldn't want to be the car pulling in that space after. What is the point in a online booking system giving time spots when you turn up and there are 9 cars ahead of you and at least 10 unloading and when you leave the queue was still tailing back half way up the approach road.
