Dreghorn Woods
Travelled all the way from Kilmarnock to see colinton Muriel's on underpass and well worth the journey . If anyone fancies going , best way to get there , number 16 bus from princess Street , and it stops at colinton village .Ask directions once you get there , only a 15 Min walk from coop .People I met in the village were so friendly compared to the big city

Nice for a quick hike! Just a note that there are markers are certain checkpoints, and paths. However, you might get easily confused by the various paths and get lost (it is the woods after all). Those with limited experience in wilderness should be careful.

Dreghorn Woods
It’s our m favourite local Park. Dreghorn woods are lovely and the best way to have a peaceful afternoon while having a walk in the woods. This place is very well looked after, family-friendly and accessible to everyone. We are thankful to be living close by in those times of global pandemic. It’s a great place to have a catch up with a friend while social distancing ;)

Dreghorn Woods
A lovely circular walk of about 35 minutes. Really interesting remnants of the trenches that were dig for training purposes during WW1 and less so during WW11. The walk can be quite muddy at times.

Very attractive. Fine collection of middle aged trees. Needs a watering hole mid way.

A lovely place to walk, exercise and enjoy nature. There are information boards detailing various points of interest including historic WW1 and WW2 training trenches.

Dreghorn Woods
To the unassuming eye, this is a local wood, natural, unsculpted and pretty much left unattended to. That is, until recently. The woods are owned by the MOD (they are adjacent to Dreghorn Barracks) and in 2013 were made more accessible: paths became more visible, trees thinned out, and three separate information boards placed around various entrances of the woods. This is an ‘work-in-progress’.Given the land was almost like a secret wood, the Woods’ natural flora has remained intact. Indeed, some of the trees are absolutely magnificent in height and stature. What few people know is the extent of Dreghorn Woods’ history. To name a few, the 1800s 6-foot High Club (Sir Walter Scott); Dreghorn Castle; and the World War I training trenches used to prepare soldiers to return to the Western front after their period of convalescence at Craiglockhart War Hospital. The Woodland Trust has been instrumental in planting four Centenary Woods across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. For Scotland, Dreghorn Woods is the chosen location, which seems quite apt given its past.
