Public Art - The DNA sculpture
The DNA (Double Helix) sculpture is a stainless steel sculpture which was erected in 2015.It is a recognition that the breakthrough discovery which allowed the modern process of DNA profiling (also known as DNA testing, DNA fingerprinting or DNA typing) was discovered and developed by Sir Alec Jeffreys, Professor of Genetics in the Department of Genetics at the University of Leicester in 1984.(When the cone towards the base of the column is twisted around the Double Helix spirals also twist around!)
