The Devonshire Arms
Coming off the dark and wet peaks after 8 hours of walking, we went in to the closet pub to the car and were NOT DISAPPOINTED! We were both freezing, soaking and finished for the day as we warmed up by the fire. The veggie options on the menu excited us (by far the best veggie selection I have seen at a classic country pub). I had a Wild-mushroom suet pudding and Meg had a veggie sausage and Mash. The suet pudding was amazing and Meg said the veggie sausages were very good too (which is rare)! The only issue was that we wished we had eaten next to the warm fire (but we didn’t ask to). We left feeling happy and fulfilled. Would highly recommend after a winter walk or run as a place to refuel and warm up.

Food and service was good(menu in pub is shorter to whats on their website so that was disappointing). However ,the welcoming wasn't. We were told on arriving at the bar that our table was number 19 in another room. The lady didn't even offer to show us our table. I asked if we could sit at a more comfortable table that hadn't got a reserved sign on it but was told it was for 6.. there were 3 of us. There was a couple sitting at a comfy seat which was for 4 people. Didn't quite understand. She just walked off when saying we couldn't have it.. .no apologies. Still we will not be returning.

We are a large walking group, and booked our Christmas meal at the Devonshire Arms. They were absolutely wonderful, especially Nathan who was so patient and really helpful with the booking which involved numerous changes to the numbers. On the day of our meal many inches of snow fell causing travel chaos and even more alterations to our lunch numbers. Nathan was amazing he helped us make sense of all the changes, the food was delicious and we all had a lovely time. Thank you so much.

Lovely pub in a great location, fabulous beer and amazing staff, only criticism would be the food! Had the pie which was ok, not big portions, following night had lasagna which I couldn’t eat, tasted funny, lettuce was covered in mayo so it was a good job I’d ordered a portion of chips! So food is a bit of a letdown but otherwise a brilliant place

Stayed in Hartington for two nights. Tried to eat at the Devonshire on the first night, and told they were fully booked up (54 people) for the whole evening. Which was surprising given it was a Monday. So we booked for the following evening, and as soon as we tasted the food we saw why! One of the best pub meals I’ve ever had. Steak cooked to perfection. The quality and price were top notch. Gary & Tom on the bar were superb. We’ll definitely be coming back.

Travelled from Stockport for lunch having checked the 'lunch menu' on the website. This includes sandwiches and small portion meals suitable for lunch. When I arrived I was told there was no lunchtime menu and sandwiches and lunch portions were never available. Only the main menu was on offer. A wasted trip and a very misleading menu on the website.

We are visiting the area and decided to visit the pub on Sunday for a meal (8 of us in total).We had assumed there would be a Sunday roast option, but the pub messaged us after booking to inform the roasts don’t run in the summer month so it would be the regular pub menu. This was great customer service!We had a lovely time and were made to feel very welcome with chats at the bar and general attentiveness.We all enjoyed a good meal and some nice local ales. The atmosphere inside was really lovely and we would happily visit again!

Lunch today for four of us. Brilliant selection of drinks and food. In the dining room, fire put on, so cosy, nothing was too much trouble. Super fast service and we’ll definitely be back. Thanks to all the staff.

We ate here as a large group (8), and they were very accommodating. Lovely food that was just what we needed after a long hike in the peaks.Well worth a visit and we will be coming back if we are in the area.Lovely main courses and the desserts were delicious - big portions!!

The Devonshire Arms
My mate and myself called in for a quick drink while visiting village. As we walked in, an open fire greeted us so warm and cosy. We had a drink, sat near fire and spoke with a few in there. The place was packed, folk calling in for lunch. Great friendly staff. Great pub.
