About the Business

Old Beaupre Castle | Cadw | Medieval manor with extravagant Tudor additions and status symbolsDespite the name and its medieval origins, Old Beaupre is really more manor house than castle. Built in two stages, the older part was constructed around 1300 while a major renovation in the 16th century by the Bassett family produced some of its most impressive remaining features. These include the well-preserved three-storeyed gatehouse and striking porch, decorated with columns inspired by the architecture of ancient Greece and bearing the family’s heraldic crest carved in stone.

Fabulous hidden gem for kids to explore! Difficult to find, but lovely and peaceful, we were the only ones there.

A lovely old Elizabethan manor house, not a castle, but worth a visit, unfortunately you can't get to it by car , you have to park in the lanes and walk along the public footpath to it.

Lovely castle with some stunning views from the top. Free access, parking can be a bit tricky but a short walk from a village and some lay-bys on the main road.

I wouldn't say that it is a castle as such, but more of a stately home. The history was very interesting on the boards. It is difficult to get into though. Be prepared to walk a while or climb a wall (if you follow maps that is. I don't think the farmer likes people)

Drove here from Porthcawl to find super water logged fields that couldn't be crossed with 6 children & a miserable farmer who doesn't allow people to use the foot path or carpark for the castle. So we didn't get to see the castle, unfortunately, which does look brilliant.

Not easy to find the entrance to to the site, sat Nov will take you to a farm with a warning sign of no entry to the castle, then when you can locate the sign and style its hidden by overgrown hedges. The access is over farmland, three fields.Castle is currently closed, so only able to view outside area

Not really a castle so to speak, really a Manor House but plenty of it left to explore for an hour or so. Access off a small pathway from the main road (opposite a white gateway) easy to miss! A fairly easy walk through a cow field but not suitable for those with mobility problems. Some areas have been locked off now due to vandalism by looks of things, and you can't get round to the garden at the back.

Its a great little Castle to look around. Its free too but you have to walk across a couple of fields as the farmer doesnt allow you to drive past his farm even though signs show thats the way and theres even a car park there but you cant use it so its baffling tbh.

What a lovely castle a lot left compared to a lot I've been to in the past. Children enjoyed too I'd highly recommend this castle to anyone who enjoys ruins of old castles

Fantastic place for a quiet adventure and a picnic. Lots to explore, and not far pff the beaten track. If you find the signs, trek through the cattle fields it wont take long to find!
