ConsBuilding Property Issues - consistent issues with faulty items, even with responsive staff:- When I moved into a flat in G block last year, the kitchen window was locked shut, and although we reported it immediately, it wasn't fixed for 2 weeks, which was a health hazard as we couldn't ventilate properly- TV screen was cracked when we moved in (2022), we had to report it ourselves to get it fixed- Kitchen hob started failing after being used for a while, so a cooktop would stop responding and you would have to switch to another cooktop (not to do with the 15-minute deactivation safety feature - this failure happened even when the hob was turned on, on the wall)- Multiple occasions of tap leaks (kitchen tap fully broke apart)- Room window swung open from one of the hinges - not securely attached- In addition, staff sometimes checked off repair tasks that weren't fuflilled, which I would re-upload, or report to Reception, and would eventually get done that way- When I moved into a new room (2023), the freezer had broken compartments as if someone kicked the compartment boxes and smashed them in- Poorly fixed towel rail, came off the wall when I placed a towel on and tried to take it off- Large windows that barely open = lots of heat loss through glass, yet poor ventilation in summer as windows only open to a narrow degree- Notice board and mirror in ensuite-plus rooms is usually placed right at the door, which is impractial since that's the furthest away from the desk where the notice board would be useful and also the darkest part of the room due to the wardrobe casting a large shadow, so you'll probably never use theseUncleanliness:- Hair in my shower when I moved in- Carpet inside blocks, absorbing dirt from tenants walking across with dirty shoesUnattractive features:- There's a mesh net that goes over most buildings which doesn't seem to do anyhing, but it makes the site look really ugly- All over my flat, there are stains, wall marks, random tape from the previous tenants, rips in the wall paint and overall poor building construction- Doors don't reach the floor, so sound reverberates from within your room into the flat corridor, potentially disturbing people in the kitchen alsoPoor Lighting:- Rooms have one dim overhead light and one bedside light, which usually need to be used together to get adequate lighting in your room, but still won't be bright enough to do focused work in- Kitchen lighting is also often quite darkPros- Close to the Moor, fairly close to some UoS depatment blocks such as the Diamond and the Engineering Heartspace- Cheap for the amenities available: cinema room, games room, spacious en-suite bedrooms- 24-hour gym- Fun activities and goodies every now and then- Staff are really nice- Staff are responsive to issues (to an extent)- If your flat has anything drastically broken, they'll replace it completely (I got a new Smart TV, because my old TV had a broken screen)

love this place. I have great experience as a student in Fenton. Like all the activities and amazing services apart from thin walls (not sound proof)

Fantastic facilities: big common room and study area which are always clean, and a gym with enough equipment to actually use! Lovely staff, and big rooms with giant desks in a central location. What more could you ask for

Soundproofing is not good at all, there are too many students living closely and there is a lot of noise coming from everywhere. If your block is next to Eldon St you will hear a lot of noise coming from the Corporation club and it will interfere with your sleep. The shower is just a curtain with a small step which easily overflows and makes a mess.It is generally okay to live in for a reasonable price.

Accommodation for students. If you’re looking for a place to live with reasonable price. Here’s okay. My son moved to building I with £104 per week. Room is big enough for one, small bathroom. If you want quiet place, this is not the place for you. You can hear everything from next door or the pub on the road. Friendly staffs. We got cash back £200 as well.

Rooms are great, good facilities including a nice and spacious common room and study area, cinema room. Can be a bit loud at night however, due to the location

Lovely stay here! Spacious ensuite, sufficient kitchen facility and the team is really good and responsive with any maintenance support. The only minus point is the room is not that sound proof (thin walls between rooms i suppose). Tips: Rooms facing the inner garden is better, and will be less affected by the noises. Ground floor rooms might have little privacy if that's your concern.

maintenance & reception walking in and out all the time with no warning, into rooms when you’re asleep. Will complain about the tiniest bit of dirt in bathroom and try and charge you, will complain there is a bin lid on floor when you are mid changing the bin. Rude security at night and weekends, hate their job, moody, and spend most of their shift asleep. very very noisy , even when you pay more money to be at the “quiet” side there is a live band pub each side and club at the other end. Not sociable at all, everyone keeps to their self and very international based. No freebies in reception like originally stated. Reception will say they will do something/get back to you, but then never do. Power cuts frequently that also stop water and automatically unlock all doors, jeopardising your safety. Doors and gates are always open, except from the side gates which don’t open ever. When I handed my keys in around 3pm, my partner was still staying another night in the flat and had not yet checked out, Security entered that flat with no warning at 11:15pm at night, and when questioned stated he was “checking my room was empty and locking it up”??? at 11:15pm? leaving my partner very shaken up. Reception were contacted and informed my partner something would be done, we are still yet to hear anything back.
