Had an excellent meal here today. The service was friendly and the ambience was pleasant.I had the black pudding salad starter and my mother had the Korean chicken. Both were great.U had the pie of the day which was steak and ale, it was packed with flavour and meat. My mother had the curry, which again looked very good.

Appearances can be deceptive. From the outside it looks a poky place yet inside it's really quite roomy. Been here a few times, service always first rate and the food us wonderful.

Very slow with food did tell us. Spending more money on drinks. Staff not really bothered no manager came out even though I was very angry.

Got told about stocks from some work colleagues in Wigan whilst working on a project.This is a gem of a place if you want to eat good food you won't be disappointed don't miss this one if in the area...the quantities are good and the prices are very fair. You can eat in the restaurant or in the bar area, if you are travelling with a dog you can eat in the bar area with the dog by the table.The bar area is laid out with tables a little more casual than the restaurant but it feels more like a restaurant area than a bar.The menu has a great variety of food we struggled to choose as there were so many dishes we fancied trying.The food arrived after a short wait it looked great and tasted superb, it was well cooked well presented on the plate.The staff were great lovely little blond bar maid who not only served at the bar but was doing table service too very polite and attentive. The waiting staff from the restaurant were also great we were told if you eat in the bar you have to order from the bar but we had our order taken at the table by the restaurant staff.This place gets busy which is totally understandable with the food they serve, I suggest you book ahead to secure a table.They venue is on a tee junction it has a small amount of parking to the rear and another small parking area opposite the spaces are tight but OK.During the summer there are a number of benches at the back around the car park if you want to sit outside.Thanks to Stocks and their staff for a nice enjoyable evening meal will be visiting again and will be bringing more of our project team over next time to enjoy The Stocks..

3 of us dined here, 2 had the chicken and mushroom pie, which cost £15 each and our friend had the cheese and onion pie at £13. They came with chips and gravy but if you want vegetables with your meal they are extra and cost a lot extra. Myself and one of my friends both had the hispi cabbage with truffle and each portion of the cabbage was £5 which is a ridiculous price. Error we made was we didn't pay enough attention to the prices. The food was very tasty but way way overpriced whereas the drinks weren't as paid £18 for a bottle if the house white. Never had truffle before and can't see what all the fuss is about to be honest, would I go back, that would be a no unfortunately as trying to charge fine dining prices in an establishment that does not fit the bill. Hardly any parking and no disabled bays at all so from the start does come across as very unwelcoming.

Lovely food and great service! It was a quiet lunchtime but but can be busy too - staff always attentive and pleasant . I highly recommend Stocks Tavern.
