BMW M3 Diamond cut alloys - Met up with Phil back in May, he seemed to know what he was on about re my M3 alloys, they are a difficult alloy to refurb. Finally gave him the job in June, car was to be used at a wedding in July, so had a deadline. Picked up one wk before this date, he left them somewhere as wasn't available (never actually ever met him at his workshop), i didn't get a chance to properly inspect them as they were left at another companies reception where i was picking up something else, but when i got them home i could see loads of imperfections and issues. My mechanic commented saying they were poorly finished and wouldn't last long due to how he had done them, and didn't fit the tyres until i had seen them (see pics for details).Basically marks/dirt in lacquer, very poorly sprayed grey base coat, behind the spokes there was very little or no paint, edges of front alloys were left sharp and unfinished, and no paint on the outside, and although this isn't seen when the tyre is fitted, it will still corrode and leak out past the tyre eventually, or even worse corrode into the diamond cut part..I got back in touch and he agreed to meet me to have a look, seeming to agree with me he took them away. I had 2 days to turn them round, which he did, so thinking he had sorted them i made special journey again (50 mile round trip) to collect them, one day before the wedding. He had done hardly anything to fix the problems, mainly removing the sharp rim (although it looked like he had just rubbed them down), he polished the surface to remove marks, but this made it worse as they just stood out more, and had said he had re-coated with clear lacquer to protect the unpainted areas. He must have thought i was stupid, he hadn't done this and it was obvious, but i couldn't be bothered to argue stood in a lay-by 25 miles from home.Me and my mechanic spent most of the next day trying to rectify the issues to at least try and get some longevity out of them, hand painting behind the spokes and priming the bare shot blasted outside. There was nothing we could do re the clear lacquer finish.I was so disappointed as he seemed to talk the talk, and i was expecting them to be mint. The £400 he charged is the going rate for diamond cut alloys, but you expect the basics to be done at least. the odd imperfection you can expect.I had some powder coated wheels done for my winter set at Frears Wheels in Scunthorpe, he spent ages filling the corrosion and when finished they were amazing, all for £250. Unfortunately he didn't diamond cut.Point was he spent some time on the details, and if Phil had done this they would have been fine. To the untrained eye just looking at them on the car they look good compared to what they had looked like, but i can't see them lasting long before they start corroding as there is just very little protection, and when you get close you can see the corrosion as just been flashed over, and the paint layer is very thin.Pictures attached showing the problems. he may be okay for normal alloys, but i wouldn't use him for diamond cut. I never got an invoice off him, his website clearly said they had a 12 month guarantee but he denied this. All in all he just seemed unprofessional.

Bumped my X6 wheel on a curb, BMW wanted £442 to replace the wheel, took to Phil and he sorted for just £70 making the wheel like new. What a fantastic service, can't recommend enough.

Much cheaper than buying new wheel and I challenge anyone to see the difference between my wheels and a brand new set.
