Mai Black is an excellent teacher and communicator.I have so enjoyed all the courses and look forward to the next ones.Since joining the group - last year - I have written more pieces than I have done in a long time and I am inspired by being part of a group that is so helpful and friendly.Thank you Mai.

Mai Black’s poetry and writing sessions have kept me sane during lockdown. The sessions have a wonderful informal feel with a great group of like minded individuals. Brilliant for both experienced and novice writers. I have attended all the courses since lockdown and enjoyed every one.

Mai’s encouragement and support throughout the course has been exceptional. The variety of poems and discussion has given me a greater appreciation and understanding of different structures and styles. I have really enjoyed the interaction and banter with my fellow students as well. I gave already booked the next one.

I’ve been a member of this fantastic group for a while now and the sessions Mai runs are always incredibly useful, interesting, and inspiring. The courses I’ve particularly enjoyed include the short stories one, writing dialogue, and planning plots. The group is very friendly and encouraging!

I have worked with Mai on a 1-21 basis. She helped me tremendously with re-drafting the synopsis for my book, and also gave me some very insightful details on how to write an agency query letter. I would highly recommend her.

I 've completed writing courses and poetry courses with Mai and really enjoyed them . Mai leads classes which are stimulating and really help to get you thinking creatively, building your confidence with the help of others on the course who are supportive and friendly. She makes sure that everyone's work is valued, whatever stage in your writing journey you think you're at. Will be signing up for more in the future!

I am making the transition from Data Monkey to some kind of Creative Producer and the Suffolk Writers Group is proving a great discovery.Mai has been quick to identify my strengths and dislikes and has focused my efforts in exactly the right areas for me to develop my craft and work towards a new way of paying the bills.At a time when our society and economy are going through the washing machine and nothing is certain (and I am redundant and vocationally impotent), it has been reassuring to be able to structure my week around a regular session with Mai and very satisfying to have a project to work on.Thank you.

First time meeting Mai and getting feedback for my first ever story i am attempting to write! Found all what Mai said very useful and extremely helpful. It has given me a lot to think about and work on! Will definitely be returning.
