The Cosy Byre

What an absolutely wonderful place! I’ve been in several times as the coffee is delicious. The staff and owner are some of the most welcoming and hospitable people I’ve ever come across.And then the cakes not only look sensational, they are equally tasty.Definitely go in if you’re in the area!

This is a fabulous place. I go here regularly and have never been disappointed. I have eaten all sorts, breakfast, lunch, Sunday dinner, cakes and pastries and had take away. I can't fault a single thing.It may be á little more expensive than ordinary places but you only need to walk down the 'free from' aisle of your supermarket to see how much more expensive the food for special dietary requirements is. Then it takes a certain know how to deal with these ingredients.I, like many others are so grateful for this place.My husband does not special dietary needs but has never eaten anything here that has tasted the worse for adhering to these standard. So if you need them or not, have no fear...you will enjoy every mouthful!

This little beauty is on our road and we didn't even realise until a friend told us and thank the Lord they did because it's a love place. It's got a really nice laid-back vibe and it's got the most amazing cake EVER, they are gluten-free with vegan and veggie options.

My partner has a really difficult time finding things to eat when we go out, so it's so nice to be able to go sit somewhere that he doesn't have to worry about what he eats. The staff are lovely too.

A hidden gem!!Absolutely recommend the Cosy Byre.They serve amazing food, especially their huge range of cakes and desserts. Soooo good!!! I don't suffer from any intolerances but you would never guess that the food is gluten free.Super friendly and knowledgeable staff all set in a lovely relaxed and rustic setting!!Keep up the great work team Cosy Byre!!!

Everything we have had from the Cosy Byre has been delicious and if you aren't gluten free you wouldn't know it was all made without any gluten.If like me you have coeliac disease or need a gluten free diet it's very reassuring to know everything prepared on the premises is safe and free from any risk of cross contamination.The staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful; it's a pleasure to visit every time.

Highly recommended. The quality of the food and hospitality of the staff is second to none.Though I warn you the cakes are too damn good!Enjoy having such quality options local to me.

What a clean, warm, friendly place to be.Don't be put off by its gluten free status, from the food, you would never ever know the difference.I have to admit they do poached eggs as good as me, wow, tasty!If you are in Consett I would definitely recommend this place.

My mam and myself visited for lunch. I am intolerant to wheat, dairy and egg so it was very appealing to have somewhere local to go for lunch that had a good range of gluten free / vegan items on the menu.The setting is ‘cozy’, modern and welcoming. There are seats through the front door and an upstairs area.The menu is split into sections, all of which gluten free. First section has everything, then there’s Dairy Free, then Vegetarian, then Vegan - so it’s easy to navigate to the section you require.I ordered the veg & guacamole wrap, mam had chicken wrap - both came with crisps, salad and the most delicious home made (vegan) coleslaw. There are plenty of ‘lunch type’ options to choose from.For desert, I had a carrot cake (with plant based cream) and mam had lemon drizzle cake. All of which are home made.The staff are very friendly and very welcoming, nothing too much bother.We both enjoyed our coffee, wraps and cake and we will certainly be returning.Only note to make would be to add an option of something like sweet chilli sauce / mayo as to the chicken wrap so it wasn’t so dry.See you next time!
