Love the Duke!! We had a great night on Saturday. Great atmosphere and great service. Adam and the team are doing a great job.

If you believe the manager should allow a young woman to feel harassed and afraid because she didn't pay to be in a certain area of a pub then this is probably a good place to visit. If you're the kind of person who believes the manager should definitely not ring the police after a fight has broken out following harassment of a young woman then you'll love it here.If you like your veggie option to contain meat here's the place to be.Personally it's not for me.

Really difficult to say anything positive about our experience here in Jan 2023. Poor service, really poor food and dirty cutlery. My advise would be to keep your money in your pocket and visit somewhere else if you're looking for a pub lunch. We'd taken a lovely walk alongside the Humber from Hessle and were really looking forward to a lovely pub lunch. Arrived just after 12 to be told there wasn't any meat pies. Was offered a vegetarian pie or a seasonal pie. I asked what was in the seasonal pie to be told ''chicken and stuffing I imagine''. It turned out the seasonal pie was chicken, carrot and parsnip when I asked them to confirm which sounded nice so I ordered one. Baby food inside a pastry case best describes it. Awful. Chips had been cooked many many times but the peas were OK. My partner said her sausage and mash was so tasteless she started to wonder if she'd caught Covid but she hadn't thankfully. Won't ever return.

After putting in heaps of effort (and money) to plan a party at the Duke, It was gutting to have it ruined all due to poor management. We raised concerns about uninvited punters entering and we were assured on several occasions this would be policed. The manager did not live to these promises and as a result the night came to a unfortunate end. Having seen him in action, It is shocking that the manager is in any position of authority, he could not have handled situation’s any worse on the night. Countless issues throughout the night were not resolved as they should have been. I personally feel he needs more training and a recap of the basic policies and procedures in order to meet the bare minimum expectations for a manager.

Attended a party on Saturday night in the main bar in a reserved area, (not a private function as not paid for). Uninvited guests were able to use the area as it's a public bar.Staff were amazing! Worked so hard to serve and clear which couldn't have been easy as was extremely busy. There was an incident during the evening (obviously fuelled by alcohol) which was dealt with in a very professional manner by the Manager.I understand he is now being vilified for doing his best in an extremely difficult situation. I find this unacceptable and unnecessary.Hospitality is struggling currently post covid, times are hard for us all. I need my local to continue to be the amazing place it is thanks to a great team with great management. With the continued support of our fabulous community this will happen!!Thanks to all who serve us from Management to cleaners, you are all truly appreciated.

Professional ReviewUnfortunately on this occasion it is going to be a 2 star review. This establishment has gone down hill. Hardly anything in stock on the menu no pigs in blankets and no chicken and limited drink available like no Prosecco etc and plus over an hour wait for a simple Burger and chips. Online the roast dinners come with stuffing etc but they don’t come with it and when asked they just said they had no stuffing in stock. The roast dinner is substandard. Watered down gravy chewy meat it’s just a shame. The burger was just a Pattie out of the freezer that was burnt and the chips came out cold. The children’s portions are tiny and came out cold. Worst review I’ve had to do to date what a shame. Unfortunately this establishment has lost its vibe since mark had it.In a positive light the manager dealt with the issues professionally and issued a refund.See attached photos

Not only was the food served that was supposed to veggie wasn’t - which would have a warranted a bad review in itself. The atmosphere of this “comforting and welcoming” bar was to put it bluntly, dire. During the night, a young woman was verbally assaulted and the idea to resolve the problem was to stop serving drinks at the bar and outright refused to call the police after a fight had taken place. Not only was this one of the worst pubs I’ve ever been to, it’s a pipe-dream that the “management” are still able to work in this establishment. This is a unsafe place and there is no reason to come here.
