Steeple Ashton Market Cross & Lockup

The ancient Market Cross on the village green in Steeple Ashton is a Grade II Listed Building. Dating from 1679, it was later restored at various dates in the 18th and 19th century. The structure comprises a Tuscan column on stepped base, plinth square with fielded panels and pilasters. The dates of various repairs and restorations are inscribed around the top of the column and above this there is a fine block sundial with wrought iron 'hands' and a ball finial with iron cross and crown. Located adjacent to the old Lock-up or Blind House.
