The York
Convenient at the moment given the large and spacious garden at the rear, which was once a bowling green. Service was friendly and the pub was clean and organised. Beer range was reasonable, although a little limited on real ales. We were a bit late for food, but the menu looked good with topped fries, burgers and pub meals. It's best to book a table at the moment to ensure a spot.

Very pleasantly surprised at how good the food was here. Simplistic dishes with an excellent understanding of flavour from the Chef. This has jumped straight to the top of my local eateries for date night. Beer/wine & service were also very good. £80 for snacks, starter, mains & drinks

Wonderful experience eating & drinking at the York. Best Bloody Marys in town. Exceptional food and atmosphere and a seasonal menu with high end & local ingredients which will delight foodies in the area. Not to be missed if visiting Norwich. Incredible value for the quality and variety of dishes on offer

The York
They’ve recently reopened under new management, the drinks menu was really wide and varied as well as being well priced. The beer garden was absolutely fantastic - loads of tables but well spaced with some chill music playing. The service was also great. Could do with a couple more vegetarian options on the menu.

I really hate doing reviews like this, the York is one of my locals, I've seen it change hands so many times over recent years and each time I get my hopes up, only to see them dashed. Popped in a week or so ago, my first thoughts were, the new decor is so dark and oppressive, dark gray really doesn't work, the staff greet you like rabbits stuck in headlights, not quite knowing what to say. Bought some drinks, average prices for the area and ordered food. This is where we have a real tragedy, my order was the pork belly, yes it looked nice, great for your Instagram profile, but in reality, what a failure. Pork belly needs a crisp skin , not a flabby bit of inedible fat, braised fennel should cut like butter, not need to be hacked and the Jus should be more substantial than a spoon of water. Generally a poor meal and not cheap. My wife's fish meal, fish over cooked, was not much bigger than a starter. All in all not very good. If you are going to do this kind of gastro pub al a carte meals, do it well or don't bother. Not one member of staff asked if I enjoyed the meal, that really sums it up. Why bars around the Unthank persist in this kind of food baffles me, none of them do it well, yet charge stupid prices. NR3 has some of the best eateries around, most doing contemporary takes on food we love. People say to me , the Unthank is for the older generation and this is the food they love, I say look at Blue Joanna, packed nightly , with a menu far removed from the others around it. Time for the Unthank area to move on.

Excellent venue. Lots of outdoor space. Great variety of food too. Was with a large group who tried pretty much everything between them and nobody had a bad word to say.
