Kansas takeaway Oldham

Kansas Fried chicken just isnt what it once was.ok so I haven't been there for nearly a decade so I thought id give it a try - surely the poor reviews must be biased. Kansas Fried Chicken (FC) was one of the original and first fried chicken shops in Oldham - well before the other colonels KFC got here and it tasted lovely.So after many years of absence I got the chance to go today - it was Friday 1pm, and 2 college campuses nearby were breaking for lunch, so imagine approx 600 plus hungry teenagers walking in all directions to get fed.I saw most takeouts full with customers, some busier than others - but it was all too quiet in Kansas FC, in fact it was empty. Even though its one of the closest one to the college buildings, people just walked on by as it if was selling used tyres.I went in and asked for a chicken burger meal, surely it must be a high selling item and thus well made. Paying £4.00 - most item prices were reasonable, not overpriced but the limited menu was cutting choice for consumers. You cant possibly mess this up, right?Well this is Kansas, the buns went in a microwave to be warmed up - it was ok but expected the buns to be lightly toasted on a grill.The burger was already made and kept barely warm in the top glass display - I could see the single person running didnt expect many customers today.The chips were reheated - reheated! - from being cooked earlier I can tell, like a flash in the pan they were done in under 2mins came out slightly burnt and soggy. I found a small single sachet of salt at the bottom of the chip bag, after I ate most of the chips, with no salt or ketchup.Then the burgers fried chicken flavour just wasn't there, the coating looked like it was made in 1989 - it was faded and bland and didnt look interesting.No plastic fork - (ok that was expecting too much). But the lemon refresher wet wipe is also missing after all these years they have gone cheap! Then the packaging is generic polystyrene and not Kansas boxes or paper bags like yesteryear - that went well otherwise I would have felt slightly embarrassed walking on by with 'I eat a Kansas FC' packaging.Drinks were the usual cans, and not on tap to fill your favourite beverage.Are these owners trying to save on costs? - perhaps there efforts should focus on quality first.I'll give it miss next time seriously, there plenty to choose from in Oldham, this place should not be on your list. Not memorable, well avoid.

Never had a problem with kansas the spicy sauce in itself is unique in comparison to the rest of the chicken shops whom seem to have a similar recipe. Having read the negative comments here most people that are on wilmslow Road on the weekends tend to grab a kansas from there lol. For me I will still give this a 10/10 never had any problems and not an upset stomach which other places give you the following day.

It’s not the same. I have given this place a go twice. Ordered from the lunch menu. Told the chap is the food fresh. And yes he said. Was it f**ks. Chips was bad. The chicken was old ! The rib was half warm half cold. Pay the extra and go the the other chicken shops I.e Orlando’s Virginias Dallas etc. I hate putting a bad review up. The 2 stars is for the price because it was very reasonable. Sorry Kansas. I loved this place once Upton a time not anymore Though.

The ribs Tho!!!!! An institution in the world of fried chicken, unique flavour, amazing chicken and the best ribs I've ever ate in my life. Will never leave this place

Used to love kansas but can't get through to place an order for delivery anymore. All the contact numbers on Google etc are cut off.Ive tried 4 or 5 previous numbers so far.

Best spicy chicken burger ever! Ask for a spicy sauce / mayo mix for your chips! You won't regret it!
