So two years after my 5* review I feel compelled to update this to 3* … this place is a convenient spot to pickup coffee and fresh bread on my morning walk but the staff have such a poor attitude and I just don’t feel welcome in the way I used too.On one of my recent visits there was a mixup and the barista made me the incorrect coffee when they brought it outside to the ‘serving point’. I pointed this out and the member of staff serving was so put out by this I wish I’d told them to stick their coffee and refund me. Anyway, I waited for the replacement which was a flat white rather than the latte initially made. When it came back a couple of minutes later it was clear this was in fact the same drink and they had just transferred it to a smaller cup…There are too many good coffee shops and bakeries in Hove to worry about going to the ones that don’t care…. I recommend Brodwolf, Gails or Real Pattiserie for bread and all only a 3 minute walk away. For coffee… Wolfox (Brodwolf), Gails or Kingsway Coffee are all better service and coffee.

Came across by accident as we walked into Brighton from Hove and were enticed by the trolleys full of pastries in the window. Popped in for a coffee and spotted all the lovely cakes. Great range pastries, cakes and bread. Would definitely recommend. My only regret is that I had to choose!

The best cake I've had this year! small cafe and on the pricy side for a tea and cake, but it was truly delicious. Beautiful tea blend with lots of choices. Quiche looks and smells incredible.

Great apple turnover and coffee. Turned up after a windswept walk along the promenade. Staff seemed initially rather indifferent and were in a rather animated conversation about some cake tongs and whether someone could book some Xmas holiday. But the quality of the food was amazing. A compact and bijou little gem of a place we will be returning to. There was a steady stream of locals turning up to buy takeaway coffee and cakes. If I lived nearby it would certainly be my ' go to' for cakes and drinks.

Great hidden gem. Went after a sea swim today and sat in. Amazing pastries straight out of the oven. Loved being able to see the baking happening, feel the warm of the ovens and the delicious bakery smells. X

I love this place. The pastry’s are delicious and I’ll be making sure I visit every weekend before I relocate. I wish I had found this gem 5 years ago, when I moved to Brighton. Sad to see other people have experienced rude staff, they have always been pleasant when I have visited!

From the mismatched plates and the ancient sugar tongs, to the formation of flying ducks on a free scrap of wall the Sugardough bread and cake shop is a working bakery. An assembly of charity shop chairs and tables are shoe horned into a tiny shop front along with counter, displays, cooling trays preparation area and the ovens which provide a comforting warmth and the source of the aroma which led us here. The friendly banter of staff mixing with the early morning radio creating a hive of purposeful activity. The serendipitous encounter of human spirit that has built communities for centurie.  Movement of people, sounds, aromas, in a complex dance of commerce all of which is eviserated by the reckless imposition of a digital economy. I think I'm a 21st century luddite.

I bought 3 cakes today . Carrot cake was delicious .The flour less chocolate cake was good. But the awful apricot cheese cake was dry flavourless and a waste of money.I think I was given the display one I would of returned it. But had already left Hove.In won't return !Good luck
