About the Business

The Heron Stowbridge - The Heron Stowbridge | Tracey & Stuart Elflett and their team welcome you with open arms to The Heron Stowbridge, situated in this beautiful and tranquil waterside location. Nestled between two rivers; The Great River Ouse on one side, and the man-made Relief Channel on the other, the building originally started life as a farmhouse before being turned into a pub/hotel for fishermen when the river cut was made. A local by the name of Albert Gyp was granted an alcohol license in the 1950’s, and the building has been a pub ever since. A favoured spot for locals, the pub attracts walkers and horse riders from local villages, and ramblers from farther afield.

Family gathering, 5 adults 4 children & 2 dogs. Entrance is not very clear from the car park a bit confusing. Lovely outside seating area beside the river & dog friendly inside and out. Range of food ordered from sea bass, steaks & steak pie, and they were all very well presented & very tasty. Good value for money, dog friendly seating inside and service was quick .

The Heron is set by the River Ouse so can be quite picturesque when sitting outside. Longboats are able to moor up and take advantage on what this public house has to offer. It has many outside seating areas but there is some noise from passing traffic. The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. I thoroughly recommend the mushroom stroganoff and the pan fried sea bass. It was superb and compliments go to the chef. It's a place that's always worth a re visit.

This is consistently my favourite pub around King's Lynn/Downham for roasts or any food. Today we can for a roast, were served promptly and the food was delicious!I consistently return and recommend this to any one.

Food was amazing. Ribs n chicken was huge! Steak & ale pie looked lovely. Sharing starter board also look brilliant! Excellent value too! Best to book...full on a Tuesday early evening.

We were looking for somewhere that was open on a Tuesday lunchtime for a new year dinner with family and plumped for the Heron as it was one of the few open on this day.I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt as we did arrive as one of their first guests after reopening this year but the service, while friendly, was quite slow after ordering. They had a nice fire going which we appreciated coming in from the cold and wet weather outside. In better weather the outside beer garden would have been a good place to sit and eat.Food was ok, nothing particularly spectacular, but decent portions and tasty nonetheless. Price was a little high for what came, 3 courses were averaging around 30GBP per person.Quite a few locals were eating lunch as well so obviously it's a regular place for them.Overall, with not a whole lot of choice in the area, an ok, if pricey, meal in an ok place.
