The 15-09-2018 I've served with my Catering Company the wedding of Adam and Caitlin in this Castle. The Wedding was for 40 people, and there was plenty of space for them to do activities and enjoy their time gathering together. I recommend this castle because is very comfortable, with plenty of rooms for people who want to read or play the eight pool and with very ample kitchen for people who love to cook. Ample Private Car Parking and Beautiful garden and the surround of Dunoon. The is also the sunroom for people who want to eat feeling to be outdoors.

A fun weekend with extended family marred by poor surroundings. This building should be ideal for a get together in a big group. However, neither the inside nor outside space has been well maintained, and the accommodation is not nearly as good as some hostels I’ve stayed in. It is dated, shabby, and frayed around the edges. It smells of damp and the decor is passé. None of the bedrooms has a lock and neither did our bathroom, which had an oddly petrol smell each time the shower was turned on. The beds and bedding are in need of renewal as the mattress in our room was hard and lumpy. There are holes and turned up edges in flooring, and marks and stains on the walls and carpets. The grounds are grand and would have been beautiful once, but are now in need of tlc although there’s plenty of space for games and children running around. The playground is also in need of refurbishment as the metal parts are rusty. We had an odd experience when, despite the signs saying ‘no entry, private property’ a neighbour rolled up when we were playing with the children on the terrace and attempted to engage us in conversation - weird, and hardly private… Our time spent at Hafton Castle was good, but this was due to the company and the organisation of our self catering group. Part of the deal is to clean the public areas before departure, and this was made a great deal more difficult because the two vacuum cleaners were full and there were no replacement bags, and the mop was threadbare. In 2022, it was also a surprise to find that no provision is made for recycling/separation of rubbish and that in the information book the customer is referred to as ‘he’ all the way through.

When looking for our holiday we were looking for somewhere that the whole clan would be able to fit into and enjoy. We really wanted somewhere with character, plenty to do both onsite and nearby and it did not disappoint. From the moment we arrived (a few weeks ago now) we were made to feel welcome. The castle is very very spacious and has fantastic facilities. The swimming pool was just what we needed to keep the young ones happy. There is a table football, table tennis and a full size snooker table available. The grounds are also huge, plenty of space to wander about in and explore or even play outdoor games. The kitchen has everything you need and there is also enough space for everyone to sit down comfortably for meals. The bedrooms are all en-suite, clean and tidy and there are also two on the ground floor for those in our party that couldn’t manage the stairs. While we were there we also got to meet Peter and Yvonne who own the castle, they were really nice and friendly. This place was so great we have booked to go back again next year.

Stayed at Hafton Castle over Easter weekend with a number of family members. We had an issue when our room overflowed with sewage from the toilet, sink and shower. Yvonne and Peter, the owners of the castle refused to provide us with a new room, playing the situation down by informing us it was only our poo that our room was contaminated with. My husband and I had no option but to stay in this room with our young children. Yvonne and Peter have an awful attitude and absolutely no idea how to treat their guests. The way we were spoken to was unacceptable. At one point Yvonne felt it appropriate to correct my grammar. What an outrageous way to treat a paying guest who has come to you with an incredibly serious problem. These people have no idea how to run a business. There were toilets overflowing everywhere, the place smells and is in dire need of refurbishment. Please don’t be fooled by fake reviews highlighting how amazing this place is. This is obviously a ploy by Yvonne and Peter as they get their friends to post positive reviews to take the heat off their bad publicity. No coincidence that after a couple of recent negative reviews, Claire Ankers has posted a (fake) fabulous report. Claire is a long term friend of Yvonne and Peter which is documented over years of Facebook posts. She is in cahoots with them to try and save their failing reputation. Please avoid this place at all costs. Dunoon is a lovely place with plenty of other places to stay. AVOID HAFTON!

Can I just state that the three stars are not a bad judgement, but they are suggestive. Can I start with the positives. The settings are among the most beautiful anywhere. Argyll is definitely in the top five most beautiful areas worldwide. In the castle(country house) there is a catering facility kitchen, snooker table, table football, table tennis, tennis and lovely gardens with a children’s park. The library, dining room, bar and living room are sufficient, bordering on bare. But, sufficient.I definitely, without hesitation come back. The negatives…and something they could rectify. The mouldy smell permeated through the castle. This is acceptable except in the bedrooms…this is not a difficult problem that is impossible to sort with some consideration. Towels in bedrooms smell of dettol…charging for swimming pool should be changed and reflected in the price. No change of beds or towels in one full week not really acceptable.

Honestly avoid this place, the owners are terrible, very rude, and it smells bad. It's such a beautiful place it's really sad to let it fall apart. I looked into having my wedding there and they were so unbelievably rude I was shocked. The conversation started with, why are you getting married here? Throughout the walk through I asked normal questions about the venue where the owner wouldn't answer me with words except a shoulder shrug and eye roll. I've never felt so badly treated and I had my heart set on this place. All they had to do was treat us like they valued our business. When we wrote them later giving them another chance to win our business back they simply ignored us. My fiance and I were so excited and left feeling rubbish. Did I also mentioned it smells, they are clearly neglecting this place, they get their friends to leave reviews after using it for their own personal parties. And yes, they live on the property which was conveniently unmentioned during our walk through. Beautiful on the outside but the people inside are terrible. Stay away from this place.
