Lapworth Museum of Geology

I LOVE fossils and I can't believe I've lived here for 23 years and didn't know that this museum exists! Such an amazing, small geological museum. There are some amazing local fossils and information about how the area has changed and developed over time. I was surprised how busy it was, so do plan ahead as parking is limited. Weekends are best as the university is closed.

What a gem of a place! An absolutely must, especially if you or your child has an interest in geology and all things fossils. They have lots of interactive and hands-on learning activities, including treasure hunts and trails to do. They have drawers for little ones to open, including reading nooks with more than enough books to read or share a story.The staff are extremely nice and knowledgeable. There is a small eating area at the front of the building, within the reception area. There is a small gift shop there too. Toilets are easily located at the back of the museum.They run various family day which are fabulous and engaging.It isn't a big museum and could easily be done in 1 to 2 hours.Parking is located in North Car Park. Make sure you have the correct change or use Ringo App. You have about 10 to 10 mins to the museum. However public transport is easier.

Loved the museum, it's small but all the exhibits are great.It's not too crowded so you have plenty of time to see and read through.The exhibits are quite interactive too.

Took a small group of SEN college students there last Friday morning. Impressive dinosaur display downstairs and lots of fascinating crystals and mineral exhibits upstairs. A pity the illuminated globe wasn't working, nor the hands-on exhibits to show folds and faults. Nevertheless, there was plenty to browse around and some useful leaflets to help them engage and use their literacy skills.

It is a nice museum. Full of good attractions. It is good for a rainy day. Be careful when visiting by car, as far as there's no parking space in there. Moreover, I personally found it difficult to get there. It is in the middle of the university, so it is pretty much challenging to arrive.

A fabulous small museum in the grounds of The University of Birmingham. Fantastic sections of minerals and paleontology, with some fantastic exhibits. Definitely recommend for an hours visit if nearby. Kids would love it.
