I studied the GDL here last year and I am currently completing the LPC. The quality of the teaching is overall very good at ULaw, and the tutors are all incredibly helpful and supportive. The building itself is impressive and stands out on Park Row. The campus isn't huge, but has a fairly sizeable library as well as an open space on the top floor which also has computers. The top floor is a great space if you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere for studying and socialising. The location of the campus is ideal, being right in the centre of Leeds it is just a 5 minute walk from the train station, and close to many of the city's big law firms.Would certainly recommend to anyone also considering completing their GDL or LPC here.

Cannot give zero, so I have to give one. The staff is extremely unhelpful and unprofessional, would not recommend for anyone.

I can't fault the quality of teaching, the level of dedication offered by the tutors, or their approachability and patience. There's a heavy focus on exam technique and memorising formulaic essay structures. This 'spoon feeding' may be distasteful for some, but ultimately helps students achieve the highest possible marks. For the GDL, there's also an optional research module where you can demonstrate your research and critical thinking skills. However, I think some elements can be improved upon. There's only one careers advisor, who checks covering letters, CVs, and applications. In January and October, when vacation scheme application deadlines approach, it's normal to wait two weeks for appointments. An educational institution with a sizeable student population ought to have more staff in this area.Additionally, the majority of students wish to work in regional firms. These firms don't do a lot of work in banking/private equity/financial instruments. Unless you already have a pre-existing interest in finance, the Leeds branch of the UoL may not suit those looking to work in City firms, because little effort is placed into developing commercial awareness or business acumen.I would give the same advice to those eyeing the Chancery bar: the BPTC course is excellent for those wishing to practice in criminal or family law, but dire for those interested in tax and commerce.
