Forbury's Restaurant

Excellent meal, great service despite not having booked. We went at peak time on the spur of the moment, while many Christmas office parties were also taking place. Yet the service was fast and very cheerful. I didn't feel we were being ignored, given that we were not part of a large group: quite the opposite. It made me realise I should come to Reading's great quality places (and this is one of them) more often. Thank you for a good evening.

Quality materials well prepared, fairly sized portions. Starters and mains were excellent, the dessert was however huge and very sweet. It's definitely a place where I will return.

We've decided this is our favourite restaurant in reading, and we've been twice! Service is, what service is supposed to be like, and why you give a tip. It is Excellent service with very good attention to detail. Food is well presented, tasteful, and a good combination of flavours. It's how restaurants should be.

We had a lovely, if somewhat rushed meal here. (We had a concert to get to, so the time pressure was our own doing!) The waiters were attentive without being at all intrusive; the food was delicious, varied and well presented. We had the Sicilian wine of the week, which was really good.Due to our early start and time pressure, we ate from their express menu; it was delicious and good value. They even made my wife a 'happy birthday macaroon'! I'd happily come back next time I'm in Reading, though I'll take my time next time!

I've changed my review from four to five stars. Lovely food good service but always buy your beer by the pint . Great value look at the attached picture.

Very nice menu and wine list. Excellent service and comfortable seating. A fine resturant working hard to provide a higher standard of dining. This is also reflected in the price, being somewhat above usual, but justifiable. A very plesurable experience and one to be repeated when next spending an evening in Reading.

Great ambient, romantic. Nice music and good food. I had the frog legs, well made but little too much parsely for my taste. The Duck leg cofit is excellent. But the amazing part was the chocolate foundant.Service is amicable and high standard.Trick part is the car park, hard to find on the back Street.

Whilst apparently the restaurant has parking reserved for host. I have never tried and not sure how it works.The Forburys square restaurant has always been regarded as the very best in Reading and easily competing with neighbour michelin starred one.Returning there after a long wait I am only giving it a 4* because it used to be more special. It would however be easily a 4.8 instead of a 4. I was disappointed with the frozen baguette offered with the butter (charged £2 per head). I was also disappointed with Welsh Lamb breast which was slightly too fatty for my liking. The overall dish was still very tasty and very thoughtful.The king scallop was delicious and deserves a 5/5. The foie gras was excellent although the bread with it wasn't anywhere near the quality of the rest in the plate. The trout was overall good butno wild factor.Chocolate fondant was to die for and I would strongly recommend it. Not sure about all on the plate. The kumquat was not relating to anything on to the plate.The tart tatin was good to great but the pastry was too tick, although full of delightful butter.The staffs were attentive and helpful to the exact mesure. Precisely what you need for a plaisant evening. I would love to score a 6/5 as I have always highly thought of that restaurant but this time around it was certainly missing un je ne sais quoi". I will be back because I would like to believe it was a bad night by their own standard."

Midweek treat, great food and very attentive service albeit the restaurant wasn't busy. Friendly staff, very courteous. The lamb was amazing. Good wine too with a reasonable price range.
