Mrs Portly's Kitchen Classes
I went to Mrs Portly's Kitchen plot to pot" class and also stayed overnight in her absolutely gorgeous Georgian room for B&B with antique furniture and wide views from its windows. Linda is very friendly and kind. I enjoyed very much picking the fruits and vegetable from her garden and cooking in her beautiful kitchen. Linda is very enthusiastic and taught us warmly and in a friendly way. I had a good opportunity to meet other class attendees who love cooking and take pleasure from the process of trying new recipes. We got to take home what we cooked

I had a fantastic time at a cookery class at Mrs Portlys kitchen. Linda’s beautiful Tudor home is the wonderful setting and the classes take place in her farmhouse kitchen. As I was travelling such a long way I decided to stay in the Georgian room. The bedroom is large, airy and light and has an en-suite dressing room and bathroom. The tutor for the class was an expert in her field and the atmosphere was informal and fun as we were all sat around a large table. I would highly recommend the classes at Mrs Portlys and hope to visit again.

Absolutely brilliant.Such a beautiful venue and kitchen to work in, with everything you could possibly need supplied. You just turn up, get taught amazing new things, have great fun cooking, get fed and watered throughout, then leave with all your bakes plus having made some new friends. The best day!In this course Steph expertly led us through baking 6 gluten free recipes with explanations and tricks that made it all easy to understand and achieve, and all totally delicious. I definitely plan to go back for another course as soon as I can, and would recommend it to everyone, the choices of courses is varied so theres something for all tastes. It was great, thanks so much to the lovely Linda & Steph x

My two teenagers spent a fantastic day with Linda learning how to cook. Her teaching is exemplary and so relaxed. We were welcomed with bacon butties and fed with the food my teenagers made. A great day; inspiring, informative and in the beautiful surroundings of Linda's home. I cannot recommend Mrs. Portley's Kitchen enough. We will definitely book again.

We were lucky enough to persuade Mrs P to provide us with a bespoke class, creating a 3 course Italian-themed supper/dinner.We are competent home cooks and felt we would benefit most from learning some skills and techniques that would easily translate into everyday use.Mrs P responded perfectly, teaching us how to make Focaccia Genovese (thinner and crustier than traditional), pistachio biscotti (OMG - to die for), chicken thighs with rosemary and lemon (plus oodles of garlic) served with vignarola (a luscious combo of veg we pulled from her magnificent garden that afternoon), and panacotta with wonderfully rich espresso sauce. Oh, and as well as teaching us how to make divine pesto, she helped us create - for a little bit of fun and diversion - pork-meat 'mummies' wrapped in puff pastry. That's the food. The lessons were delivered with patience, humour, grace and effortless skill and we had an absolute ball.Highly recommended!!! And if you wish to take your course 'in residence', she offers spacious accommodations - one v large room with en suite and an apartment with full self-catering and private access for longer stays. Given that Brockford Street is perfectly placed to explore across Suffolk and South Norfolk, and that Mrs P is something of a star of the local foodie scene, with a bit of planning and advice from her you can turn a one day course into a long weekend of sightseeing, exploration and visits to local farm shops.Nick and Robin PetersWest Sussex

I attended the Food & Product Photography course last weekend at Mrs Portly's and I thoroughly recommend it. Phil was an incredibly patient teacher and he was very good at explaining all the steps you need to go through to get a good photo. He then helped us achieve this ourselves and I came away buzzing with ideas and wanting to practise lots more.Linda was a very warm host who served delicious food throughout the day. She dropped in and out of the class to add her own thoughts from her experience having worked in the industry for many years. If you are debating whether or not to book I really would encourage you to. I thought the course was excellent and very good value for money.

A friend and I travelled to Mrs Portly’s Kitchen in Suffolk to take part in Catherine Phipps’ most recent pressure cooking masterclass. Set in Linda’s beautiful home, we were warmly welcomed and introduced to the other lovely people attending. This is very much a watch, learn and eat class with Catherine expertly demonstrating and explaining the art of pressure cooking, using her recipes. She ascertained skill levels and tailored her responses and advice individually. Linda offered her advice and observations and made sure that we all had everything we needed - the perfect host. Catherine was inspirational and I can’t wait to get started enlarging my repertoire of two dishes to however many! I highly recommend Mrs Portly’s Kitchen and look forward to attending another course in the near future.

Thank you Linda, for a brilliant class. It was more than I expected and I learnt a huge amount. Made 3 of the recipes for a large BBQ and everyone congratulated me and had at least 2 helpings. I have recommended you and will definitely be coming back again.

We spent a really excellent day at Mrs Portly's kitchen with enthusiastic and friendly guidance from Linda, our host. Every part of the day was a pleasure and the quality of the teaching and the subsequent eating was excellent. A very good place to learn how to be a better informed cook.

The course is taken in a beautiful old listed building. We were greeted with a lovely coffee and homemade biscuits.A chance to meet fellow participants. We were taught to make three types of pastry and then turned them into four recipes. Lynda was a great teacher answering all our questions and patiently helping us throughout. My only wish was that Lynda had some more help between sessions as she was kept so busy.My husband bought me this cooking day as a gift. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire day. I have learned lots and been inspired by many aspects of the day. The people we meet were lovely and the lunch was again homemade and delicious.I would definitely recommend the experience to food lovers and I would like to take another of Lynda’s classes.Thank you Lynda for a memorable day x
