National Trust - Dark Peak
The Dark Peak is the higher and wilder part of the Peak District in England, mostly forming the northern section but also extending south into its eastern and western margins. It is mainly in Derbyshire but parts are in Staffordshire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire.Principal upland areas within the Dark Peak include Kinder Scout, Bleaklow (both of which rise to over 600 m (2,000 ft)), Black Hill, the Roaches, Shining Tor, Mam Tor, Win Hill and Stanage Edge.Over the years, military aircraft have crashed on the Dark Peak, generally because of a combination of numerous nearby air bases, inexperienced pilots, primitive or faulty equipment and poor visibility. Because of the bleakness and emptiness of the high moorlands and the consequent difficulties of recovery, substantial wreckage remains at some sites in remote parts of the moorland, though militarily sensitive materials were removed and salvage teams sometimes gathered debris into piles, or burned or buried it.Some great walks, with beautiful scenery. We would recommend it to anyone.

Parking was awful, very limited and about £8 for the afternoon. Pathway up to the top was good, really needed given how busy it was (it was incredibly busy). Don’t bring small children in prams or wheelchairs though, you won’t get out of the car park.

Beautiful place! an easy hike. Did it with a 4 year old and he had loads of energy to keep going even after the peak. The path is well made with rocks paved. We did not catch the rain but I think you would not have an issue with muddy boots even if it did. Its a fairly quick climb to the peak of Mam Tor. There is a paid car park, (use the website on your phone browser to make a payment if the app does not work.) You can park along the road outside , but using the car park I think helps support the place etc.

What a beautiful place, spectacular views and very much back to the wild. You walk past cows, sheep etc. Unfortunately no toilets or nearby shops so make sure you are prepared if your coming for a hike.

Absolutely love the peak district. Some fabulous places to go on adventure and discover from Mam tor to Kinder scout and much more Mum tour has a great car park at the bottom of it and a really easy walk which would take 15 20 minutes for youngsters to walk up. Absolutely stunning, sunsets and sunrises to be seen from here. Even better is Kinder scout but is a much bigger walk, especially taking Jacob's ladder which is not Easy but worth every step once at the top
