MOD Lyneham
When the motorway was being built, my wife and myself had to leave it and detour via side roads. Jet planes flew regularly and noisily overhead, their landing lights on. One night, in the pitch black, we saw in the distance what looked like a helicopter sideways on. Then it flew slowly overhead.It was a round UFO, with a purple beam rotating around it's rim. It had no markings on it but was lit up. We were in a convoy of cars, all of whom slowed down.

By golly how times changed. Played many a rugby and cricket match at this place all to the background noise of the Hers rolling out to save the world...never stationed there but always a shame to see history disappear.

Closing RAF Lyneham was very sad, especially to lose the Hercules, but MOD Lyneham is busy and they have done a great job with the base. A lovely venue for the Under 17 Car Club, a brilliant club, highly recommend.
