Lovely spacious room with a balcony and a large shower room. Comfortable bed. Nice evening meal and breakfast very good. Service at breakfast not so good on the first day, but much better second day.The room could have done with some coat hooks and a safe.

Bit of a mixed stay. Some staff were excellent (friendly and accomodating), while others weren't. As an example at breakfast the server was on his second shift and didn't know where things were (like hot water). I don't blame him for not knowing, but rather felt that he had been abandoned when he should be being trained. He wasn't helped by the kitchen staff sending out incomplete dishes. That said, he was really doing his best - I was disappointed in those around him not teaching him.Food: ordered the same breakfast each morning... sometimes the dish had everything, sometimes components missing. Overall inconsistent. That said, the smoked hollandaise was amazing - well worth ordering.Rooms: we were in what seemed to be a recently redone room, but the smell of mildew was evident and the bathroom skylight showed water damage from leakage. The bed was rock solid. If you like that in a bed, you'll be happy.Naturally, as a public house, there was some disturbance until the bar closed.

It was our 34th Wedding Anniversary. We chose The Bear as we had beverage stayed in Hungerford before and we were attending the Battle Proms at Highclere Castle. We had a lovely room away from the main hotel, with a balcony overlooking a stream. We had a lovely evening meal on the first night. Great menu with a good variety. We had breakfast. Yet again, lots of choice. However, I don't like smoked bacon and unfortunately that's all they did but I enjoyed what food they served. The staff were helpful and friendly. We would definitely return again. I can recommend The Bear and Hungerford for a short stay etc.

Excellent Hotel, Old and quirky, with rooms off from the Hotel, bar and restaurant, nice room, could do with some tlc, comfy bed, little noisy due to the original old windows not been a good fit, but a warm room. The main Hotel with the pub and restaurant had evening meal was excellent, food plentiful and well cooked and an excellent meal, had the stacked burger with pulled pork, amazing all I can say, service excellent, breakfast next morning was again very good, plentiful and all freshly cooked.Look forward to visiting again as great location and very nice.

Whilst booked in for a meal at 1245 for 3 of us the time was put back 1230 and then when we sat down and ordered our meal we were told there was an hour wait for the meals!Service was good and staff very attentative. Just a shame of the timings on the meal

We rendezvoused with our family here for lunch. You can judge a pub/hotel quite often by the salad it serves. Is it tipped from a bag? or did time and effort go into the preparation? The Bear excelled. The food was very good and the children's menu was very thoughtful. Very competitive pricing and great staff who could not have been more helpful and polite. My only regret is I forgot to leave a tip which was richly deserved my apologies to the fabulous staff. Thank you.

Went for a Sunday roast so can’t comment on the hotel. Very friendly welcome and good service. Sadly the roast was not great. Very fatty beef, the carrots were well past their best and the stuffing was more like cardboard

We stayed here for 3 nights, there were some issues with the room (it's an old building!) But the staff, especially Jasmine, were absolutely amazing. Sorted everything with a smile and made our stay extra special. The food here is amazing, the lamb shank especially recommended (our thanks to Paula, for great service) but everyone at the Bear is amazing. Comfy beds, good food, lovely people, delicious breakfast, what more could you ask for? Well done team Bear x

Went for Festive lunch on 3 December. Very disappointing food. Turkey is obviously a rolled processed joint which tasted bland and was spongy, stuffing tasteless, sausage undercooked and sprouts awful and even charged 99p for a soggy Yorkshire pudding ! The pub was fairly busy but we felt neglected at the back of the dining room. Service slow and poor. Never once asked if everything was ok and didn’t get a chance to comment on the experience. Sorry I could not recommend the festive fare. Stick to the normal menu.
