The Ship Inn
Convenient if you're staying in Kingswear one of only a few places to eat and drink. Food pricey and (some dishes) disappointing. A ploughman's with sliced white bread toasted? It's a lovely pub, nice people and clean as a whistle, none of us I would have minded paying the elevated prices if the food had been great, it wasn't.

Food was ok but pricey, staff incredibly friendly and superb service. The reason for the low overall score is finding out that when the staff are tipped for their excellent service that the manager/owner takes their tips if the till is out. I cannot agree with this practice, if I tip someone I fully expect for them to get the full amount or for it to be shared with their colleagues as it is my money I am giving to say thank you to them. For that reason this establishment deserves a poor review

me and the wife stayed in kingswear for the weekend and visited this pub on the last day wish we had gone in earlier it's very spacious the staff were welcoming and the beer was spot on. cant comment on the food we didn't have anything to eat. TRIED the steam packet down the road on the first day DO NOT HAVE THE BEER in the steam packet it is like dishwater and that's not an understatement i was heaving and theres no room to swing a cat round didn't enjoy the steam packet at all.

Great pub with lovely food and beer. There's an excellent view of Dartmouth and the river from the beer garden; a really relaxing spot to enjoy an evening pint and bite to eat.

Booked last minute for the Sunday roast as we really fancied it and we were not disappointed! They went the extra and added some extra bits on for us. The beef and lamb were exceptional. What a great plateful of goodness at great price! We all thoroughly everything!

We were pleased to see The Ship Inn busy again after not being so for a few years so decided to give it a go for a meal whilst down on our annual holiday. Unfortunately, however we were left disappointed with both the food and service. The favourite dish (I was looking forward to anyway which was the Thai curry) on the limited menu had already sold out (at 7:30pm) and there was only 1 special on that evening which we were informed there was only 1 left of. Therefore, I chose the Cajun chicken burger which I can’t deny was really nice however the fries it came with were soggy/under cooked and the coleslaw it came with was literally a spoonful. The fish and triple cooked chips were particularly poor - the batter on the fish was soggy, and the chips were barely cooked let alone triple cooked! The sausage and mash meal was the best choice in our party and was enjoyed, and generous with 3 sausages, although we did have to pay £2 for (hard) peas in order to have some veg with it. We won’t be eating here again, although would probably enjoy a drink here occasionally.

Situated a few yards from the train station in Kingswear there is a small area to sit outside with seating inside. I can guess it gets busy at weekends in the summer for sure. I have been recommended the food though on this visit (July 2020) the kitchen had not opened yet following covid 19, which was a shame because we would have eaten. The manager is a sound fella and there is a choice of ales ciders and lagers. The watch out for any Ale drinker is that during Covid many establishments are very limited in the choice of Ales which is a shame but totally understandable. I will visit again and edit accordingly when I hope to review the food. Nice relaxing atmosphere. With a partial view of the station and river Dart.

Great pub to watch the world go by at a very steady pace! We only had a lunchtime beverage, but what a stunning location to look over the River Dart and Dartmouth.

A very cosy and friendly pub. Often busy when others are not. Good range of ales in good condition as well as other drinks of course.I have not eaten there yet so review applies to it as a place for a drink

Solid staff. Solid food. Everything about this place is correct. The chili con carne is spot on. Ciders great and on the tap. Nice to go somewhere in England and get some taste and well cooked food. 10/10. Will visit again. (PRO TIP: Do not order chilli con unless you can handle a little spice)
