The French Horn
We just had such a lovely evening and spontaneous unplanned sleepover here. The location on the river at Sonning is serene, in a beautiful garden. The menu, decor and service could be called 'retro' and old-fashioned - consistently executed to perfection. The menu seems to aim for simple classics at absolute top quality. The room had a river view, balcony and - consistent with the overall ethos: few gadgets, retro decor and lovely soft towels, robes and sheets. Just what you want for a romantic dinner and overnight with your partner. Although this is not something we can afford to do very often, I'd say it was remarkably good value for what we got.

The French Horn provides an extraordinarily elegant experience, both as an Inn and a restaurant. Unfailing and impeccable service, delivered consistently by the current owners and family for over 50 years—it’s like stepping back in time to an earlier era of grace and civility.

Never have I ever truly felt jaw dropped by the service recieved at any restaurant ever before.All the staff members here are attentive, super polite, and make you feel like a damn billionaire. I felt extremely out of place, but in the best way.The food was brilliant. Enough said really. Exceptional night.

I cannot imagine a more wonderful place to spend a Sunday afternoon, it is the most idyllic setting. Starting with drinks on the terrace, followed by a fabulous meal consisting of quite traditional British fare with french influence, served in generous portions.There is no feeling that you shoudl rush to order or eat, unlike some other restaurants which feel like a revolving door.I am grateful to live near such an amazing place, and return as often as I can.

Absolutely exceptional service from a wonderful gentleman who is an absolute delight. I wish I had caught his name for reference. Beautiful views, extensive wine list, and generally a lovely restaurant. Highly reccomend.

This is a very British hotel restaurant on the banks of the Thames. 5 star food and 10/10 service.

Loved it. Food was excellent as was service. Why not 5 star instead of 4 stars given. Two minor points... (so if I could give 4.7 it would be fairer), went to sit down at table and there was a bread roll under my chair also a serving trolley (not part of our meal) was left by our table and I had to push it away so I could get up to go to the loo. Minor but.....
