Mears Student Life - Old Mill, Dundee

good wifi, a bit expensive, good pressure and warm showers, radiators are good and work well, friendly staff, nice community area at reception.

Stayed here for 2 months on a university placement based in Guardbridge. Location was ideal for what I required, having a flat to myself with all services except washer dryer was great. The staff on site (Jack and Shannon) were exceptionally helpful and knew my face by the end of the first week. Would definitely recommend - didn't eellike student halls at all.

The Kitchen is littered in beetles that cling to the carpets. It's disgusting. The carpets should be changed and so should the cooker. when I cant take a bath Because water is ice cold after 3 minutes it's running. The rooms are not even similar to the ones shown on the photos! The bathroom and the toilet was full of hair and mould when I moved in. It was not cleaned after the other guys moved out. There is 4 people living in my flat and we only have one small fridge and only three shelves. We had to buy our own one. The two sofas" in the living room are really old and disgusting. Overall it's really bad for its price.. I do not recommend it and definitely not coming back here next year. The only good thing about it is free gym membership :)"

Service is pretty awful with another person getting my daughter's room key!After waiting 2 hours lovely people arrived and gave the person another room, only for someone to sleeping in the bed because the 3rd person involved was given also the wrong key.Poor room keeping records and not great contact information for anyone if there is an emergency.For young girls staying here this is just unbelievable

The bad: Was told I'd be paying £73 a week then told there weren't any more rooms and moved to £83 a week, only to find I'd be charged £93 a week to pay for May & June in advanced which went to waste).Staff felt intimidating, several issues with flats, consistent fire alarms set off, most events were alcohol induced/not enough ice breakers. Roof floor have ceiling windows leaving the room to feel closed off. The room was not as it looked in the photos.The good: Helpful when you've forgot your key, understanding on late payments, helpful when there was a problem.Overall: Too expensive for what it is, and should be much cheaper.

I am a St Andrews student and I have chosen to live at Old Mill because its more affordable and a really good value for money. It is in a great location, all essential services are within 10 mins of walking. The staff here are super nice and helpful. When something breaks, the maintenance comes to repair it within a day. I have never experienced anyone coming into my room without prior notice and I am sure that even if they access someone's room when they're not there, it's for essential, safety-related maintenance. The smoke alarms don't go off as often, in my block it happened just once last semester, but that happens at all student accommodations, I suppose most students are not very skillful cooks and tend to burn their food. If anything in this review doesn't make much sense, it might be because it is kind of a reaction to the previous ones. Especially the older reviews are quite harsh but since then the management has changed and they are doing everything they can to improve the Old Mill and make it a great place to stay and I think they are doing an amazing job! Honestly, if you are considering living here, just look at the more recent reviews from the past year or so. I love it here so much that I don't even mind commuting to St Andrews and I will definitely stay here also next year.

Beware that if it happens during unsociable hours, an outsourced team can take between 1-2 hours to silence the alarm.The facilities may appear good, but don't be surprised if things are broken upon your arrival. Based on my experience, heaters, refrigerators, and TVs might require replacing.If peace and quiet are what you seek, especially when studying or working on your thesis or project, brace yourself for some extra 'social' experiences. Expect rooftop workers playing the radio, chatting loudly with seagulls, and often entering your room without knocking or waiting - a significant breach of privacy and security, which one typically considers when choosing a residence.Structural issues like water leakage from old, cracked ceilings during rain can add to your worries. And let's not forget - this is Scotland, where it rains in every season.One cannot help but question why they accept payments and allocate rooms that are not ready for occupancy.If all this sounds acceptable to you, then Mears Student Life, Dundee is your place! This sums up my one-year experience at this place.

I have stayed in the Old Mill for five years between 2018 and 2023 and I had a fully positive experience thanks to the great team who take the wellbeing of their tenants seriously. If things do not work, they come to fix it and if you face any issues, they listen and help you out. Thank you to the team of Shannon, Jack, Ross and Peter for the lovely years at the Old Mill and I can definitely recommend staying at this accomodation :)

Old Mill, Dundee: Great location, helpful staff.I read the reviews before my daughter booked a room last year and was alarmed. However, please don’t worry, the accommodation is fine. Yes, it’s student accommodation and it is definitely not luxurious but it is fine. Rooms are a decent size as is the kitchen/ living room. Rooms are not en-suite but most of the 6 bedroom flats have 2 toilets and some have 2 showers which seems to be sufficient.Yes, drains block and cookers break but the management team are pretty good at getting things fixed or replaced.For a first year student it’s a great place to get to know people and make friends. It is just a few minutes walk from the university, the nightclubs and the shops. You can go for a tour before you book and see for yourself.
