There's a little more than meets the eye to this place. It's a nice forest walk, don't get me wrong, it's not going to change your life. But if you choose to walk all of the main paths there's a fair bit to see, and some good history information boards to learn about the area's prehistory from, as well. 'll have to go back soon and find that bronze age cairn that I missed when I was there!

An absolutely superb example of intelligent, well thought-out and enviromentally sensitive forestry management. It isn't over-managed or manicured, but a wonderful nature reserve with good trails of different types, all well-marked and mapped out, with map boards and signage. A lot of the deadfall has been left to create havens for beetles etc, and the overall effect is fantastic. A fabulous place for a peaceful walk. I just wish people would pick up after their dogs - and NOT hang poo-bags in the trees! This selfishness spoils the experience for others. Also, please observe the convention of putting your dog on a lead when you see another dog on theirs. It shows courtesy and that you understand your dog and how they behave differently when approached by another dog.

Veey nice area for a walk, with excellent views. Shaded and cool on a warm day. Small car park with bins, no charge.

First visited 20-odd years ago. Since then the forest has matured nicely and is a lovely place for a walk or jog. There are a couple of good marked trails. You can do a five mile circuit through the forest the up to Eryrys village and Bryn Alyn.

Pleasant walk in the woods. Good parking and clearly marked routes. Took less than an hour to do the red circuit and we weren't rushing so the 2 hours estimate is way off.

Lovely little woods, a few routes to get your self lost.. seems popular with cyclists, so we followed wooded routes to let our dog run free.. free parking

First of all you can visit the Bronze Age Burial Cairn with stunning views across Wales and into England. Then Llyn Ochin - an old lake that has dried up to a bog with all the wonderful wildlife that brings. Next ruins of the Pant Du lead mine which closed down in the late 19th Century. Up from there a Trig Point with views to the Trig Points on Moel Famau and Hope Mountain. To the north views across the Dee and Mersey estuaries to Liverpool and to the north east as far as Runcorn Bridge. In the middle of the forest is a really secret place; the ruins of an old farmhouse where the birds sing so loudly you can barely hear yourself think. The down side? Be careful of the cyclists who come round corners at great speeds; near misses lead me to expect to hear of a more serious accident one day. Enjoy!
