Great car park

Great little spot to leave the car while visiting the lighthouse.Can do an easy out and back along the path or a circular route taking in the coastal route following waymarker posts.

This is information for tourist traffic from a resident, as no other authority seems to think it is necessary to let you know . The lighthouse is not visible from the road, ANYWHERE. You have to walk, and for some folks it will not be an easy walk. There is a circular walk to the lighthouse, therefore you can start at the other end, and it would be better to park in the village and start from there, as there are only a few spaces at Outend. There is NO OVERNIGHT PARKING either. The parking area is on croft land, and the Outdoor Access Code relates to feet and not wheels hence the no overnight parking. The road from the village is single track, with many blind bends, dips and summits and is not really suitable for large motorhomes, who invariably can not find anywhere to park, or take up most of the parking area. It is a tiny island that shares just the one road and is not built or designed for the volume of tourist traffic, and it should not have to make any excuses for this fact. As it is a crofting area there are sheep wandering around a lot of the time and they like to sleep in the road usually the other side of a blind summit. There are some passing places along the way, but enterprising campervans have now decided to park in them during the day and overnight. Early morning or late evening is less busy. When the parking area is full, its full. The path to the lighthouse goes across the Common Grazings where there are sheep and lambs; it is a crofting area and not for vehicles. Please respect this small island and the Outend, there are parking areas the other end of Scalpay, closer to the village. Hopefully someone will find this useful.

This review is for the walk down to the Eilean Glas lighthouse. It's a great walk to a proper lighthouse.

Unfortunately only 5 spaces a long way to drive to just have to turn round . This was in May

The island is worth a visit, walk down to the lighthouse and look over the Minch.
