This is a much newer monument than the lushly elaborate necropolis that surrounds it. If you go only to see this monument and do not look at the necropolis, you will have made a mistake. Scottish history means more than just William Wallace, as the ghostly cavalcade of tombs in this area demonstrates. Yet it is still a poignant and noble monument and worth examining if you are around the necropolis area.

The Battle of The Bell O' The Brae monument is dedicated to the Battle between the Forces of William Wallace and The English garrison stationed at the nearby castle according to tradition Wallace implementated a pincer like strategy that resulted in English panic and rout Wallace and his forces would chase the English well into Ayrshire before retiring to Dundaff castle the seat of Sir John de Graeme in the Carron Valley to regale those present of the deeds of the day
