YHA Borrowdale

The hostel is in a great place for going hiking and having a place to sleep. The food is nice, they also have a bar. Staff are very kind and always want to help! The lounge next to the bar has very comfy seating and some of the rooms are nice, however some are less nice e.g smaller, less windows/ventilation etc. The games room is really nice although most of the games are quite battered and might need replacing, but still usable. Shared kitchen is good although sometimes can be a bit stinky. Toilets are good although can sometimes smell slightly, and showers are excellent. When parking outside beware of MASSIVE pong when you get out of your car due to septic tank right next to the parking area! Overall a nice place to stay but needs some slight upgrades!

Stayed for two nights in late November for the first time. Found the hostel staff very welcoming and friendly, the room I stayed in was very clean and comfortable. My only criticism was I ordered the full english breakfast the night of arrival for the following morning, and was told it was a buffet and I could choose what I wanted to eat. It wasn't, I was given a plate with undercooked sausages, the bacon was charcoal and couldn't be eaten, a tablespoon of beans etc. Had to bulk up on toast before my hike. Was very dissapointed.

Great little hostel, friendly staff, good kitchen, and lovely location.Only downside is that there is no phone signal and no WiFi in rooms. Guess we have to be sociable!

One of my most favourite hostels. So incredibly homely, warm and friendly. Just love this place. And the location just spot on

Stunning location! Ample parking. You can pitch your tent, take a room or a pod. And use the facilities here. Stream just outside, and on a clear day, you can star gaze, which was something else!Rooms are clean, bed was comfortable. Toilets and showers clean and hygienic.Staff were super. Friendly and knowledgeable. And very accommodating. Compared to hotel and other lodging.. they focused 1st on the well-being of whoever walks in.Food was great, they had a good selection of vegetarian and vegan options.

Sadly just a 1 night stay during a coast to coast run. Lovely, cosy place with great staff. On site bar and filling food inc vegan options. The drying room sorted out all wet kit too. Excellent

Well this was my first visit to a youth hostel since I was a kid.Things have approved. The main addition that I liked was the bar and the cooked food. Just the luxuries you like was you are no longer a youth. This has got me thinking about youth hosteling again so intend to visit more.Don't be out off by your childhood memories. Visit one

I camped there in a borrowed tent with not enough pegs to keep it stable in heavy winds. On my second day the wind nearly blew it off the field!! Other guests and the hostel staff were trying to peg it back down before I even realised how bad it had got. The forecast wasn't good and I decided to take the tent down and was going to sleep in the car for the night. But then the manager (?) offered to put me in a landpod for the night, with no extra charge. I had only paid £7.50 for camping and initially didn't want to accept, but then she said she had offered the same for some other campers that had just arrived and that made me feel less bad about saying yes.So, I got an absolute bargain stay in one of their landpods!! Warm, dry, cozy space to listen to the raging wind and rain outside! Landpods are right by the river and it's a very pretty setting to wake up to. I slept well (despite all the weather/river noises) and enjoyed my stay very much.The two nights I slept in my tent were good too. Car park right next to the pitch, but no disturbances from anyone using it. Showers (gym style) OK.

A very nice hostel that is in easy reach of trails to climb Scafell Pike. I also liked the general vibe and design and it feels well looked after. There's a good bar and a decent amount of seating which is great for relaxing in the evening. The staff were also really nice. Note that they close the reception shutters at 10pm so make sure you arrive earlier than this. We only just made it during my visit so that was a little stressful, but it wasn't their fault we were delayed.Overall very happy and would definitely stay again.
