Wretham Church, St Ethelbert

This church is beautifully kept. It's so typically English.

St. Ethelbert's is a traditional stone rural Norfolk church, located nearby Wretham military airfield & Great Hockham Picnic Site. It's surrounded by a grassy churchyard with some old gravestones, although the main reason for visiting is to see the WW2 headstones. These mark the graves of Czech & Commonwealth volunteer pilots who were killed in action fighting the Luftwaffe. St. Ethelbert's is truly unique as a building, its tall tower having an inverted V-shaped roof, so neither spire or crenallated construction. The interior is traditional woodwork with further information about the foreign nationals buried on-site, as well as Wretham Hall. A hidden gem of rural Norfolk churches with a timeless sense of seclusion & tranquility.

Fantastic church you need to phone up to get access but well worth doing, the features inside are lovely and the history of the church and area is really interesting.

Beautiful building (from the outside). You will need to pick up a key from a nearby resident at 4 Windmill Lane if you want to go inside. More details in attached photo.

Very well kept but did not look inside but will visit again,lovely setting.
