Alan commissioned the creation of a kilt, argyll jacket, waistcoat, sgian dubh, sporran, gillie brogues, socks and fly plaid for my wedding. I was shocked when they arrived as they exceeded all of my expectations. He also organised the hire of kilts for all of my ushers and page boys and went the extra mile to procure my family tartan. Whilst other more local firms provided similar service, upon meeting Alan and gaining experience of his professionalism, diligence and attention to detail I was adamant that Connel Bay was the firm for the job. Alan and Debbie were a joy to work with. This was our first time using a kilt outfitters - and we are based in Bradford but got married in Oban. We ordered 4 kilt sets in a beautiful dark great tartan. There were one or two “hiccups” along the way ….but both Alan and Debbie dealt with it in a swift and truly professional way. Jamie and I were delighted with the service we got from alan and his team. He made time to fit us virtually (from San Francisco in my case) and was thoughtful about guiding us through the balance between traditional and modern versions of kilt jackets and accessories. The products were done on time and budget and even rushed across the world to meet a tight deadline. His use of materials is more like an Italian suit than an old fashioned black and shiny buttons version we are used to seeing at weddings. Cannot recommend them highly enough....and they are also very good value, important for any Scot!

Here is our experience with Alan at Connel Bay: Good day all! In May 2023, we were lucky to spend two wonderful weeks all around Scotland enjoying the warm and welcoming people, the fresh air, the landscape treasures of the countrysides not to mention the many accessible treks, food delicacy & Scotch distilleries all around. Our road trip took us to every corner of Scotland as well as Orkney and Mull Islands. Attending Mull, we discovered the port-city of Oban which offer the ferry trip to Mull. Lovely Oban was part of our last leg of the trip before Glascow and some regional Highland Games we attended. So being around Scotland for two weeks, we were weighing throughout the trip on the one piece/item that would act as lasting memory of Scotland on our wall back home (aside a few bottle of Scotch of course). We finally decided on a tailored Celtic style sporran covered with black fur. Alan, at Connel Bay Boutique was simply a gem, a true gentleman!! He thoroughly took care of the order, place the request at the factory, had our names engraved in the back of the sporran. Part of the challenge was to have it send by courrier to our last hotel in Edinburgh before take off: a mission on closed call so we thought because of the limited timeframe left before departure... Well surprise, in the morning before leaving to the airport, at reception desk of the hotel, there it was, our splendid flawless pristine sporran, well packed, ready to leave to Montreal with us. Of course nowadays, we could order online, we know, we know.... but online purchasing is not always the point, it is not the fun, it is not the emotion, it is not the encounter, the human contact, the trust!
