What a fantastic boat trip to the Isle of May and Bass Rock! We had an amazing day with all the family - and this boat made it a real adventure for us all!

We had done the Isle of May tour from Anstruther and the standard Bass Rock tour from North Berwick in the past, both excellent. However, the day trip that BlueWild offers from Dunbar unites the best of those other tours with much more. Quite appropriately, they depart from in front of Dunbar's Propeller Pioneer.A small fast boat with comfy shock absorber seats and great visibility from inside letting you (almost) keep up with the gannets without spray or discomfort, even for the 81 year old in our group. We had Alan and Pauline, very caring hosts who shared fascinating insights which, being a small group, we could all actually hear and discuss. Not just birds, dolphins, seals and geology but also ship wrecks, lighthouse technology and how to navigate in the Forth to the delight of my teenage kids. The puffins had long since left when we went but the two-island itinerary BlueWild offers made up for it. The Isle of May is a small taste of the West Coast of Scotland without a 5+hour drive. The Bass Rock and its residents are too special for words. It should all be World Heritage. It is SO worth planning your stay in East Lothian around this trip, leaving margins to be flexible if Alan needs to change the day for better weather conditions. The Isle of May is in the unpredictable North Sea, as we learnt during our navigation lesson on the trip!

We had a fantastic day last weekend with this boat company. We went out around 11 am and were back just after 1pm. Went all the way to the May Isle, back past the Bass Rock (close enough to smell it!) and then took a slight detour to see a pod of dolphins next to North Berwick Harbour. Our guide was so knowledgeable and answered all our many questions (and that of my inquisitive 5 year old). The weather was grey and spitting rain but the boat cabin was warm enough and it was good that we could get indoors for part of it.We saw loads of wildlife: Puffins, Gannets, Guillemots, Kitiwakes, Grey Seals and even dolphins!I would highly recommend it and will put a note on our holiday website for our guests to use this company!

Enjoyed a great day out back in late August. Time on Isle of May included a tour of the lighthouse. Too late in the season for puffins, but we were shown an orphan puffling which was about to be released back into the wild. The trip back included a circling of the Bass Rock in the close company of hordes of gannets

I had a really enjoyable trip with BLUEwild in July and was fortunate enough to get fantastic view of breeding puffin, razorbill and guillemot on the Isle of May. It was a treat to leave from Dunbar and to travel to the island via the Bass Rock with fantastic views of wildlife. Both Alan and Pauline were extremely knowledgeable. A great day out and one I would certainly like to repeat!

My wife and I were privileged to be able to join Alan and his colleague Pauline on an approximate 5 hour trip to Bass Rock and the Island of May where we able to disembark and explore the island. This is an exceptional tour and one that is provided with a passion for the wonderful East Lothian natural coastal environment and inhabitants. Alan and Pauline’s knowledge of the birds and their migratory habits is vast and they possess an ability to share their interest in a clear and intelligible manner. We saw many different bird species and Alan went to great lengths to enable us to enjoy the company of a large pod of dolphins. The trip affords a wonderful view of the coast line and the beauty of the distant hills beyond. The boat is modern and well equipped with an evident concern for safety from start to finish. Being relatively small it enables an intimate experience, far removed from the larger more commercial tour operators. The trip will undoubtedly be the highlight of our week spent in this glorious part of the UK and I would recommend it to anyone wishing to better understand the local natural marine and wider environment.

I joined a small group on a trip to the Isle of May. I was quite surprised how stimulating the journey was. Blue Wild is a smallish craft so you do get a real sense of the Firth. Wonderful couple of hours spent on the Isle which is diverse and interesting. Alan and Pauline were very attentive and the whole day was honestly one of my best days out for a long time.
