DAMASCENA SOUK (Grocer | Bakery | Butcher)

Even i don't want to give 1 star. Ordered a knafeh some days before and this is i got from there shop. Very bad taste. It was very hard even to separate a piece from knafeh. Because it was very hard. OVERCOOKED too. So i have decided to throw it away.

A suitably well-presented and interesting shop considering the restaurants and cafés run by this company. Interesting location in Balsall Heath which is a bit different to location of cafés (Moseley, Harborne etc). You can probably find majority of these items in grocers on Ladypool Road and Stratford Road but not in a shop as smart as this one. It is also a bonus to find an in-store butcher and bakery. It says it is a souk and Middle Eastern produce dominates but you can find French biscuits, olive oil, herbs & spices from Europe and all over. I just love all the packaging. Some of it looks unchanged for decades.

We have visited this shop a couple of times now. The meat counter appears very clean and butchers are friendly. They also have a good range of spices. However each time we encountered a very cold welcome by the man on the tills. He has a cold stare, and lacks basic customer service and manners today he snatched the bag out my hand to look at the meat price before over charging me for it from what the sticker price was. The coriander is also shrivelled up and never fresh. I will not be visiting again.

The butchers is one of the cleanest I’ve seen.The lady was so helpful at the bakery all the borek is fresh and so is the baklava. What a gem this place is.

I have been shopping in this store the last 4 years. They are always friendly and there is so much variety. Especially if you are looking for Mediterranean products - that's the place for you. They also have burek and fillo pies (Greek pies) and Greek cheese. Very affordable and reasonable prices. Highly recommend it!

I love this shop. Meat is always fresh and clean. Great variety of amazing products. I gave 4 stars and not 5 because I love my Ahmed green tea with cardamon which they order in from time to time and I take about 3 boxes but then they take ages to replenish that product. Please get more of the green tea with cardamon and you will get the additional star. Overall very good..I have mentioned this three times and still no product.. I’m running out of that product you are losing business

Best souk. They have a clean butcher station. Good quality meats. A little bit overpriced on some stuff that the are selling.

Came in around 7pm Thursday evening, asked for a table for 1 and we’re busy so sat me in the bar area. Gave me menus yet was waiting half an hour and nobody came to take my order, people who arrived after me got seated before me. Ended up walking out

Descent range of middle eastern grocery with good quality brands mostly produced EU, UK and Turkey. Reasonable prices with really clean shop. There is a tidy butcher in it and some flour based desserts. Only down side is aisles are quite narrow.
