We were moving an elderly relative. They were paid £245 deposit then £1250 cash as requested on collection of furniture to deliver at the new Address 190 miles away. I waited at the new address to take delivery of the furniture.Prior to reaching the new address they phoned to say they needed an extra £680 cash as they were stopped by the police for being overloaded and their van was taken to a police yard. They claimed the extra cash was needed to cover the cost of another van. They threatened not to deliver until they had assurance that this payment would be made, or the furniture and personal belongings of our elderly relative won’t turn up at the new address. My daughter said she could only do the payment demanded by bank transfer. They then increased the amount to £816 to include VAT. We had no choice but to pay. I spent a long time on the phone to the director. It was extremely distressing. We had to pay or lose everything our elderly relative owned. The drivers were happy when they loaded the furniture. There were no white goods to load.Sam maintained the furniture was unloaded and weighted by the police. The nearest weighbridge was over 27 miles away! The police do not have the facilities to weigh furniture! The clean white mattresses were paid to be wrapped up and covered. The sides of the mattresses were badly soiled by the dirty van floor. The Luton van looked old and tatty with the logo half missing on the side. It hardly looked road worthy. Not the newish one as shown on their website. They took advantage of an elderly vulnerable gentleman, charging him well above more than what it would have cost for a large 7 tonne furniture removal van. We hired a local one a few months ago for our home move, which cost £958 in total plus VAT for a local move including overnight storage in Lincolnshire.UK Mover Ltd charged in excess of £2,300 in total for a tatty Luton Van. Please see the evidence with the photos. They made the move extremely stressful for all of us, unlawfully threatening not to deliver the furniture unless we paid the extra extortionate amount. UK Movers do not belong to any trading associations.DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. We are not the first to get scammed by them. Check them out on all review sites for long distance removals. No doubt their local reviews are fake. Trading Standards have been informed. I took photos of inside both vans upon the driver’s arrival at the new property whilst my daughter was in the process of doing a bank transfer. You can clearly see they were not overloaded. We’d been scammed into paying more, when the invoice was already paid in full for the move.Reported to Trading Standards. Do not use this Company!
