They won't like being called a greasy spoon cafe! But it's good & fairly priced . One of a few who still does fried bread.

Mr's G'sWednesday 21st August was a beautiful day so I decided to take the electric bike out for a spin.I cycled through the lanes to Iron Acton, through Rangeworthy and out to Wickwar.Coming back on the main road to Yate was very busy with lots of HGV traffic and it was noisy and a bit intimidating. So I was glad to get to stop for a Cup of Tea.I cycled into Mr's G's (which used to be MR G's and before that Snax to You) intent on being strong and just having a brew. However, when I got to the counter I heard myself ask for a Regular Breakfast. So I took my mug of tea loaded with saccharine and milk (from a big jug on the counter) and sat down at the table nearest the door from where I could take photos without raising suspicion. Now, this is a real working person's Cafe.It isn't pretentious. It doesn't attempt to be anything other than that. The environment is exactly what you would expect.A range of tables covered with plastic table cloths.Radio 2 playing in the background.Sun and Star newspapers thrown on a table rather than in the waste bin.A good selection of brown and red sauce.Everything was clean and functional.Staff were polite if a little distracted.Knives and forks were collected from a tray on the counter underneath a big blackboard displaying their wares. The food is simple and basic, but there are some great options on the menu board to temp a hungry worker.(I don't think HGV can actually park so they don't tend to use this place). When my breakfast arrived, it was a monster. (£5.50).Served on a large plate it was neatly laid out.Two commercial sausages (fried). Two slices of Bacon. Two Hash Browns, crisp but a bit greasy.A portion of tinned tomatoes, some thing I can live without. Some commercially prepared mushrooms. Two fried eggs on 'fried bread' (should have asked for Toast).A portion of baked beans.Plus a round of bread and butter served on a separate plate comes with this too. They clearly go for quantity rather than try to be too fussy.I assume the Sausages, Mushrooms, Beans and Tomatoes all came from a cash and carry with no suggestions of locally grown or farm fresh. This is 'fill em up and get em back to work' food like a Factory Canteen would have served in the 1960's.No vegan option's here that I could see.So I left feeling stuffed and very guilty. My second full breakfast in a week, after months of not having one.So, in summary. If you'r hungry and on a budget, this is the place for you.It does everything it says on the tin.But if you want smashed 'Avocado on Sour Dough', look some where else.
