Very friendly and efficient staff. Excellent range and quality of exhibits. Lots of mini activities for small children, dressing up and colouring. 3 levels , lowest one being refurbished at the moment but still plenty to see and do. Coffee and tea from machines at the entrance , some snacks and a few table's. Small gift shop which has intetesting and appropriate gifts relating to the museum. Not expensive, some items a pound or less.Definitely worth a visit. 2 hours is probably sufficient timeVery small parking place at the entrance, 5-6 spaces but thats probably enough.

Nice little place and very interesting. Free entry. I was worried the kids would get bored but there are kids areas on each floor for drawing and dressing up etc. They also gave the kids activity sheets to work through on each level. It means you're able to walk about and look at the displays while the kids are still visible but kept entertained. There is a special display about Hiroshima at the minute which is very emotive. The graphic parts are kept in a curtained off room so kids can't see it.There's a little cafe area with drinks and a gift shop. There are stairs to each level but there's also lift access. The car park is very small but I think there's also an overflow. Staff were lovely and friendly.

Fantastic day out! My two boys loved the information areas and we like to explore history whilst making memories, which this was perfect for. The Egyptian room was fantastic as was the other areas within the museum. My youngest was given the chance to make a lattern to, which he enjoed. All staff were polite and welcoming. Highly recommend visiting.

Great day out with the kids. We spent the whole day here partaking in activities and reading all the information on all the fantastic artifacts. Kids really enjoyed the playmobile toys and the colouring. Bring a sandwich!

A little gem. A brilliant eclectic collection of Oriental artefacts including a large Egyptian collection including mummies. The McDonald’s Chinese porcelain collection was being refitted unfortunately but gives me reason to go back. It has enough examples of each type to be interesting and not tedious. Thoroughly recommend a visit. It is in the university campus but there is a small car park for visitors. Entry is free.

A small, but really interesting museum with good explanations of the background to the exhibits (often lacking in other museums of this type). An eclectic range of exhibits from Egyptian mummies to porcelain to Japanese plastic toys. Well worth an hour or two of your time. Oh, and did I mention that it's free?

Interesting and authentic place to visit, a lot of very old exhibits and modern exhibits with a twist that are based on history and culture. Opportunities to dress in the clothing of the exhibits and interactive activities too. Large print guide to the museum was available which I think was a very nice touch. Gift shop is lovely and very reasonably priced, also this place is FREE entry so a little donation in the box is well deserved

Absolutely amazing experience! Best museum in Durham. Can’t believe I just found this place(because it is quite remote). I love their collections of Chinese and Japanese ornaments and furnitures especially. They also have amazingly good postcards. Highly recommend it!

Free of charge admission and given this a thoroughly enjoyable experience to learn about indo-china, Japan, Korea, the far East and Egypt. Impressive artifacts in place. We are rather healthy and walked a lot around Durham so we appreciate the regular sitting areas on offer to observe each section. Despite the China exhibition being unavailable due to unfortunate damp in the usual area this was an excellent trip.
