Loved it here, Ross was so informative. Got such a warm welcome. The tour is not to be missed. You see parts of the base you wouldn't normally get to see. Highly recommend a visit.

A visit to this former American airbase has to be arranged in advance. But it is well worth the trip. The guides are passionate and informed as they show you around the disused airfield which is still actively used for ground training activities by military police and security services. The museum is housed in what appears to be a small shed that, once inside, has endless small corridors and rooms with more and more information about the people and events surrounding the use of the airbase. It is nice that much of the material exhibited is about people so we don’t forget them. A great place to go!

This is really special to me to hear what they turned my base into after I left. I was stationed there from 1982- 1985. Some of the best moments of my life. I was planning on retiring there but due to a death in the family I had to leave. But my love of England has never left my mind!

Excellent museum about Wethersfield Airfield the lives of American airmen and the impact on the local community. There is an astounding amount of memorabilia and carefully constructed models gathered from all sorts of sources. Increasingly the memorabilia is coming from the United States and the airmen who served here and their families. The curators are knowledgeable and enthusiastic, giving tours and information about the history. Though most people think of US airbases in the UK as being used in the second world war, Wethersfield was used during the cold war when pilots sat in thier planes armed with nuclear weapons ready to scramble in response to any attack from the Soviets.I found the leaflets produced for the US personnel telling them about life in the UK particularly interesting. The museum is open the third Sunday of every month or by special arrangement. The contact details are on their Facebook page together with photos and a short introductory YouTube film.Well worth a visit and a project that deserves support.
