Joined in 2006 and had no trouble for some time. I was paying my electric and gas bills a month apart and they switched it to them both arriving at the same time without notice, but other than that, fine, and I liked the ethical approach. The SSE to Robin Hood switch was poorly handled and I did go with SSE but soon came back once they changed my tariff from what I was promised.I've always been happy to stick with them because I liked the thought of an ethical provider, but when I'm sitting with the heating off and they're still predicting a bill of 8-900 a year, I decided to compare. Just started a move to another company with an estimate of 400. I was shocked to see how uncompetitive they are. Also had problems since I switched to a smart meter, the electric one stopped sending readings after the first two months and they still haven't fixed it. I wasn't told it was broken in the first place, and get very little feedback on the process of fixing it, even when I chase. The call centre staff seem to know less than I do about it. I've read the meter more since it went smart than I've ever done before, and the in home display doesn't even acknowledge the meter exists. I was told to 'put it in a drawer' because though the gas side still works, the reported money figures are wildly innacurate for the usage.I was promised I could pay by variable monthly direct debit based on the automatic readings, then they took a quarterly bill by DD instead, on a totally different day to the one I selected. I manually read and entered the readings the whole time it wasn't working because I was expecting monthly billing to start. When I rang to ask how they would bill me each month as the meter still wasn't responding, they told me they don't actually do a variable monthly DD at all! Good job I found out before they took a whole quarter winter bill without warning! Finally, I emailed them a couple of days ago to ask why all my estimates for the tariffs they were offering me were so high compared to my annual statement, still not had a response. It's a real shame, but I'm off.*Update* They apparently don't do monthly billing, but I just received a monthly bill. The dates on it bear no relation to my original requested payment date, or to the read date of the one working meter. It also contains far lower estimates for the next year than their own tariff switching page. Shambles. Still no answer to my email or any information about the meter fix.

By far the worst company I have ever dealt with.I closed my account two months ago and although I provide them with the final readings the company just decided to ignore them. I have been chased by a debt collector agency due to the incompetence of this company to provide an accurate bill. Phoned them several times, send them emails and send messages through my account containing pictures of the final readings. Still, they decided to provide a bill with an estimate; obviously, in their favour. The customer service guy even dared to say to me that it was all my fault because I didn’t give them the proper readings. Unbelievable.I was persuaded by their non-standing charge tariffs and non-for-profit company, but to be honest it is not that cheap depending on the amount of energy you use. Moreover, you will lose more money on phone calls, wasted time and debt collectors just because they decided to make up the final readings. My strong advice, avoid this company at all cost; and don’t post reviews just because the switching went smoothly. It is always going to be a smooth transition; the problem is to get out.

I joined Ebico because they seemed to offer the best rates available to me. I chose a fixed rate tariff and was told my payments would be £32 per month for dual fuel based on previous usage. Signed up, went to set up the direct debit but because my gas payment was too low to start the direct debit they asked that I start the first payment at £39 and that they would then reduce this later, so I did. This was never reduced- first quibble.Second, in the year previously I used 566 watts of electric and 2100 units of gas- this was whilst sharing the property. So they gave me the rates above. I told them that I was moving out recently and they send me a bill for £128 telling me that I have used, in the 3 months, the equivalent to a years worth of energy. I asked for an explanation and they said they had to estimate it as I'd never given them a reading- this is a lie, I gave them the reading when I started with them in November 2018 and their letter requesting a new meter reading was sent by email to me 9 days before I told them I was moving out. No follow up. Just over a week and they charge me the equivalent to a years worth of usage in 3 months. I had £600 in credit on my account and when I tell them I'm leaving, suddenly I've used a years worth of fuel?!? Give over. You just dont want to refund me the credit I have active on my account! Made a complaint and the person in the complaints team shouted at me. SHOUTED-AT-ME. HA! Would never go with these guys. Even if they offered me 6 months free energy. They'd find a way to charge you the costs of a 4 person household for the remaining 6 months.Btw. I live on my own, work full time and am very conscious of my carbon footprint so nothing gets left on. It's not physically possible for the bill to have been that high. But they need me to pay the balance before they can look in to it or they send bailiffs.Stay away guys. Pay the fiver more and go with a decent company.

At first I had a decent experience. Switching was easy, and prices for my usage was low. There is now a list of failures I have for them. They did all of this:Cancel my direct debit without my knowledge.Wait until my bill reached over £300 before sending a debt recovery agency after me (they didn't send any written communication regarding this, the first I found out was a phone call from the agency).Fail to respond any question via the customer service email with anything longer than a single sentence. When switching away from them, they didn't ask for a final meter reading, or even acknowledge that I was leaving.I would steer clear, unless you are willing to make one off payments for your usage. Absolutely useless.

One of the best providers and non profit company. Love their 0 standing charge tariff. They also have very good customer service, never had to wait for connection longer than 3 minutes (apart from short time when they were switching their partnership from SSE to Robin Hood and there was mix up with prices). Been with them for 2 years now, including flat change, and had no issues.

Been with them for the past 2 years. When they swapped from SSE to Robin Hood energy their customer service went downhill fast. My last bill was twice what it should of been because they charged me for 6 months instead of 3 and it was like pulling teeth to get it sorted and I received no apology. If you use very little gas like me, you will save money with their no surcharge tariff, but God help you if anything serious goes wrong.

These suppliers are crooks. They transfer your tariff without notification and put you on their most expensive tariff. Here is what they did. They did not notify me about my expiry on a fixed tariff. They just added me to their most expensive one. They took to much direct debit payments from my account and instead of giving back what they owed, they transferred my tariff so they would not have to give me back the over payments they had taken. in a word CROOKS.

Have been with them for years. Initally great company, good tafiifs and great customer service. Now gone so far down that they are in the gutter. Subjected my 88 year old disabled mum, to multiple bill errors, failure to get back to her, high tariffs, refusal to investigate a faulty 30 year old meter. Today waited 1h45 mins on hold to get through them, only to be told adviser did not understand her bill himself... then cut the phone!

I have been with Ebico for 18 months and now my contract is coming to an end. I've not decided if I will stay with them but I can honestly say they have been the cheapest energy provider I have ever used. I refuse to pay by DD so pay on receipt of bill. This way I control when I pay them and not the other way around. I have economy 7 so provide a day and night rate and once got these mixed up and they called me to say my bill was too high and could I recheck the readings. As with anything, if you have a bad experience with something it doesn't mean the company is no good, it's just your personal opinion.

I'm surprised at how many poor reviews this firm has. Not my own experience at all.Used Ebico 10 years ago for a year: no compliants at all.Switched to Ebico again a few years ago. Then they switched from SSE to Robin Hood Energy and it's been a bit less organised now they have to handle their own billing, and it's taken them about a year to realise that asking me for meter readings after they have already printed my bill is a bit futile, resulting in estimated bills that I refuse to pay until they are reissued correctly. In fairness to them, the last bill they sent me was based on the readings I had given them and I have no complaints whatsoever.Whenever I have had complaints, they have been regarding relatively minor matters, and have always been handled professionally. They did ring me once about Smart Meters. Knowing more about smart meters than the person who wanted me to have one, I think I managed to convince them I really did not want a smart meter at this stage and politely refused to have one fitted and they have not pestered me again. For a firm that accepts payments on receipt of bill, quarterly, for a low user such as myself, they have saved me a lot of money. I just wish they did a renewable energy tariff.
