Tollgate Centre Shopping Park

Before I left Colchester in 2012, Tollgate was merely a carpet right, a pc world, a macdonalds and a derelict Sainsbury’s.Across the otherside of the road was the relatively “new sainsburys” which had been suitably dubbed Europes Largest - an impressive but somewhat foreboding clue into the massive expansion coming to the area in the next decade.Fast forward to 2023, Tollgate Retail Park is now Tollgate Retail Town, with more outlets and eateries than Colchester town centre itself. A true ode to capitalism.Tollgate has grown to what feels like 500% larger and is factored around having a car, or an unsuitably big 4x4 which will never once need to use its off road capacity. Infact, I’m surprised that Sports Direct does not have a drive through window.With that being said, I have visited Aldi, had a banging Nando’s last night (extra hot thighs, peri chips and macho peas, bosh) and have also visited the Vets4Pets. There is a huge selection here for a retail park. I’d love to live nearby.JK

This centre was incredibly busy for a Friday morning and parent and baby spaces were all fully occupied, making it really difficult to find a space that would give us access to a baby in the back. The walk over to Boots is through traffic that showed little inclination to stop at the zebra crossing

B&M bargains all day long & just recently I read on new, customers complaining about the cheap flowers looking dead for 1p well my wife's were 10p & I thought the same until she laughted and brought them home & just left in water! Well let the picture speak for themselves so go grab a bargain & stop complaining about the fantastic prices, go save a flower.. ( just add water ) these are the same flowers from B&M bargains

Could do with a one way parking system but the shops are big and spacious.

If you need to visit, it's ok. Too much traffic all the time. Parking confusing, stupid planning as the McDonald's drive through blocks the Boots drive thru.Nice Costa coffee and Next is ok. It's just a shopping area. As soulless as you can get.
