Fascinating history & imagining the hill fort at its prime. You can walk all round the perimeter & down to lower terrain if you don't mind the steep climb back up. Our 11 year old thought it was boring (I think he was hoping for an actual castle) Maybe better enjoyed by adults with an interest in British history.

Extended path network needs more care / maintenance. It's only suitable for those with decent footwear and who don't mind getting muddy.

Not much here other than an entry way on to the wider more appealing Cannock Chase and a good overlook of rugeley power station, Amazon and surrounding area.Great for an afternoon walk and dog waste bins are available (don't be the jerk that throws a bag in the trees!!)Fyi no bikes or horses permitted on the upper ring itself but access to the lower chase area is ok.

A high point of the chase, where a Roman fort was positioned. Moat and fort area still present. Circular walk around it popular.Although nothing to see other than heather growing.

Should be renamed Fern Ring as no maintenance is carried out, horses and bike are still using the main ramparts reducing it by around 2m in the last 50 years. The whole site has been all but destroyed by Beaudesert and a succession of complacent councils, not to mention the supposed custodians of English Heritage.

Castle Ring
Lovely walk and views. I had wished that the central part had been more cared for or without grass so I could better envisage the settlement. Suppose that's just taste. Still, a nice visit.
