This is a very pleasant walk. If on foot coming from Brighton, don't try to walk up the slip road from the A23 onto the junction with the A27. Take the small footpath on your right immediately before the roundabout and walk up Vale Avenue. Miles safer and cleaner too. Then turn to your left and cross over the bridge. Then you have to head northwards, to the small lay-by where there is usually a snack van parked. Turn right there and there is the signpost to the Chattri about 100 metres on the left hand side.

Beautiful serene setting creating a sombre atmosphere paying homage to the Indian soldiers who fought in WW1 and died in the makeshift hospital in Royal Pavilion. The location is not easily accessible, we took the bridle path and walked for around 45 mins to reach the monument. The path is quite steep and uphill. There is a narrow road which is where Google map was suggesting to use but we parked just off the main road and walked.

Tranquil and poignant memorial to the Indian and Sikh troops who perished in the war, on the outskirts of Brighton on the South Downs.

A memorial to remember India soldiers who died in WW1. It is set in a beautiful setting and part of a walk that you can do.

A walk up to here from either the car park at Jack and Jill or from Hollingbury in Brighton on a clear day is quite worthwhile as this is an unusual and unexpected landmark on the Southdowns. The actual Indian hospital was in the grounds of the Royal Pavillion. It was moved after the war to just north of Stanmer Villas. It was used there by the Brighton Steiner School until it was maliciously burnt down in December 1992

On the Downs, about a mile walk across the fields from parking, overlooking Brighton, a super location !A memorial to WW1 Indian Army soldiers, who died from war wounds in Brighton, and were cremated on this spot.

It’s a good perfect place to honour and pay tribute the heroes from WW1..a quit place in the middle of the farm..Also for the people who wants to get here, there is no way you can park a car close to Chattri, but theres a walk path from the road that you can park your car…

What a way to honour all those Indian army personnel in the British army who lost their lives during WW1!This was where those who passed away were cremated according to their own faiths. There are 3 concrete slabs indicating these cremation places. A very peaceful and quiet place! When we visited the Chattri, it was so misty, it gave an unusual atmosphere to the site!

Beautiful place set in the Ditching Beacons. Parked at jack and Jill windmill car park and is about 45-1hr walk to it. There is a nice little horse wagon cafe also by the car park. Once you get there there are lovley views and a bit of history on the monument. Great walk
