The Train Shop

Brilliant gem of a shop for model railway and slot car enthusiasts. Very well stocked and diverse range of items. The gentleman who runs the shop is very welcoming and helpful. Would definitely recommend a visit. I will definitely be going again the next time I am in the area. Many thanks for sorting out the motorised signal :)

A superb shop with equally superb service. Great range of model railway items available for all scales and at prices which are very good value for money. The proprietor is a great guy too - very knowledgeable and friendly. Go along and support your local traditional model shop - you won't be disappointed.

I had the chance to visit the shop whilst on holidays from Sydney Australia in late September. I did ring to get a time to go in. They were very helpful and I left with 3 virgin coaches at a good price. I wish i had bought some other stuff now. Yes they do not open all the time due to personal health. So ring and make a time with them. They were a lovely couple to meet

Despite contacting the owners for an appointment and agreeing a day, they completely ignored my messages and calls on that day. Needless to say my cash remained in my pocket and they lost out. On top of that I saw around 6 other potential customers trying the door only to be disappointed themselves too.If they carry on like this then I feel it will be yet another model shop which has gone bust and disappears. I have been there before and it was a great shop but certainly cannot say that now.

Shop always closed. Came out of work and all the way up from Leeds for a day out just to visit the shop as they're only open Friday's and Saturday's.Supposedly closes at 3pm according to shop window timetable and Google, arrived just after 2pm and the place is in darkness with a closed sign on the door.No reason for closure, I've been a couple of times on the Saturday earlier in the year just around closing time and same thing again.They have no social media or anything. All I can suggest is to ring the shop before you come as it's likely going to be shut. Others have had the same issue and it's such a shame as it's probably the most well known model shop in the North.Wasted trip again, doubt I'll be returning

We love this shop and were delighted that we were able to go twice while in Scarborough for the week. The owners are lovely and friendly.It's really sad to see so many posts complaining about the shop not being open certain times etc, the owners have been ill and are doing everything that they can!

Rude and extremely unhelpful staff. You would expect a specialist shop like this would uphold the principles of helpfulness and willing to offer advice. Wrong, the staff here are deliberately difficult and more interested in splitting infinitives pretending not to understand a very simple questions. They prioritise rudeness and un helpfulness over sales.

I have used this shop for many years and have always enjoyed my contact with the owners. When you go into the shop it is like entering Aladdin's cave, what ever you want it is there.

A nice selection of stock, just don't you dare have your phone out in the shop!Went in to look at scenery pieces. I make dioramas which use dollhouse scale, so was trying to google the conversion to train gauge and had to go out the shop to do it as there was no signal inside. Owner followed me outside demanding to know why I was taking photos in her shop, which I obviously wasn't as at no point did I hold my phone up to any of the displays. I showed her the scale to gauge conversion page that was up on my phone and said that if she didn't believe I wasn't taking photos she could check my phone, at which she stormed back into the shop.The sad thing is that once I'd worked out the correct gauge I would have gone back in to buy something, but I'd rather spend my money at a shop where the owners don't follow me out of the shop to accuse me of talking photos, which is apparently a great crime. Given that they're only open for one hour in Wednesdays it's a strange business attitude to try and frighten off your potential customers.
