An excellent country pub that has a very well established reputation for good food. Quirky interior with eclectic furniture and fitting. Plenty of seating inside and out. Slightly unusual but inspired menu and delicious food. Nice beers. Friendly day staff.

Went here on Friday night with friends and had the Christmas menu. We were in the Moroccan room. Have to say it was absolutely fantastic. The food. The service. Everything. We had a really lovely time and will definitely be returning

food was excellent and for that I give the chef five stars... what I assume to be the land lady was very abrupt and actually rude. someone in the group was discussing something important she snapped at them to tell their waitress.. yes the waitress needed to know but she did not need to speak to him like that. The waitresses were efficient but sour no warmth never smiled or chatted other than replying, again bluntly as the land lady had.. there had been a tip added to the bill which I was not happy about as in my opinion the only person who deserved a tip was the chef ..Children are welcome I guess but as no warmth given even to them are they welcome.. we were a group of eight.. we all felt like tins on a shelf in the supper market.. would I return I don't know as I said it was excellent food .. the staff on the other hand was a shock .. didn't smile, didn't chat and had no warmth.. this I put down to the landlady as I expect they are to scared to say anything.. yes they were efficient but so is a computer..the eating out experience should be relaxing , cheery and welcoming.. this was anything but .. I just don't know if I or my group would put ourselves through that again .. all staff especially land lady need to have some training on how to remain efficient but be less computer like and be more human.. they do this then they would get five stars across the board.

Great impromptu Sunday lunch here. Very accommodating staff that squeezed the two of us in without a reservation on a very busy lunchtime service. The trio of meats and veggie nut roast were both excellent and the service was fast and friendly. Will go back.

Had a family birthday meal there recently. The food was really superb and plenty of it. The manageress and the rest of the staff were attentive and made sure we were looked after from beginning to end. The atmosphere was lovely and all of the other diners joined in with singing happy birthday. It was a great meal and we will definitely be going back very soon.

Oh dear, having eaten many many times over the years at this pub, yesterday's visit was a real disappointment - have you got a new chef?. Firstly the steak pie pastry was hard as a brick, my guests fish was in two pieces ( with an apology!) the chips on both meals looked and tasted like warmed up chip shop chips. Desserts also were disappointing, sticky toffee pudding was dry, my 'miniature' lemon tart which I didn't eat was inedible ( I wasn't charged) but if I had of been I would not be happy. If it wasn't for the waitresses who were extremely pleasant we both would have asked to speak with management. I hope this isn't what anyone will experience in the future.

We'd been out walking and had been recommended this place by a friend and so decided to stop for lunch. Wow! We had the steak & ale pie which was accompanied by cauliflower cheese, mashed swede, cabbage, carrots, roast potatoes and gravy. The pie was the best I've ever had, looked & tasted homemade. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, plus quick service.

What a fabulous evening. A real Christmas treat with good food and the lovely Sharon entertaining us with all the classic songs. The food was amazing and plenty of it. Definitely worth a visit ☺️

Had a lovely meal today. Beautiful roasts and salmon and prawn salads. Service was great. Staff where friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Took my elderly aunt who likes good food and 2 dogs who eat any food and couldn't fault it. Would definitely go again.
