Schoen Clinic York

Amazing I was so happy to being looked after as an individual and my trauma and dissociative disorders were recognised there after being in the psychiatric system for 32 years and being treated like an attention seeker for so many years and Dr temple and the specialist team had me so much better in a matter of months I would love to go back there but I don’t think I would be funded again but 100% brilliant treatment

Overall, I’d say that my admission at Schoen Clinic helped me massively and that the care and treatment was good. There were a range of different psychology and OT groups ran by knowledgable staff members that proved useful whilst also occupying our time. A downside to Schoen Clinic was the food that was provided for us was poor quality and not to the level of standard that food should be in an eating disorder hospital and the wrong food got sent down frequently which increased anxiety for all patients. However, I am aware of the efforts that management put in to improve the entire situation with the issues of the food so I can’t say that this is Schoen Clinic’s fault and I’m not sure if these problems are still ongoing. Also, I think that more mandatory training should be required for staff as there were times when staff would not know how to support the patients or say the wrong things which could exacerbate problems. Although these problems often made things harder for the patients, overall the staff’s care was excellent. Some of the staff went above and beyond to help the patients and you could tell that they genuinely cared and was only doing things that are in your best interest. They tried to accommodate (within reason) in order to help us as well as they possibly could and to diffuse stressful and overwhelming situations. Members of the MDT and management would take time out of their day to play games with the patients which I thought was really good of them as it provided us some respite from the stress from our illness’ and gave us something to laugh about. The initial thought of going to Schoen was much worse than the reality as I realised once I got there that it was nowhere near as scary as I anticipated due to the staffs care and skills which made things a lot more bearable in an unfortunate and unwanted situation.

I was very nervous about going to the clinic and you will be too, there is no need. The staff genuinely really care for you they are ALL lovely people and really help you. They really helped me and yes I messed up few times but as long as u are honest and try ur hardest to work with them you will go far. They helped me so much and I'm truly grateful to all of them. I really hope whoever is reading this to know u will be well looked after and I wish u all the best luck. Staff thank you for all you did for me and more importantly believing in me I can't thank everyone of you. You all are amazing and will be missed. X
