Byland Abbey
It's a bunch of old stones ... soooo boring" ... said the kids ... who then spent 2 hours playing hide and seek around them

First of all, it's free to enter. It's an amazing place, I would say give it at least 30 minutes to take in the history of the Abbey and Google the Abbey as you are going round it might help you understand the different areas.

This site is FREE to enter and has a lovely little museum as well. Extensive ruins with some information boards dotted around too. Nice little local pub just accross the road serving lovely food and beer. I would definitely recommend a visit if you're in the area. Another one that we will be returning to.

Byland Abbey
Lovely flat walking with plenty of places for a sit down. We'll maintained. Very peaceful place with well defined remains of what must have been a substantial place of worship. Some restricted areas but they don't encroach on a pleasant monument.

A quite stunning ruin of a massive church and Abbey buildings. Free of charge and tours each day in the season. Lovely Abbey pub opposite serving good beer and food. Recommend parking on the Coxwold Road car parking 500 meters from the village if able bodied.
