The Art Shop

I went in today to buy some acrylic paints. I have never been served by two people who were so rude, aggressive and unpleasant. There was clearly a good range of artists' paints and materials etc. but I would never recommended this store because my experience in it was so awful. These people should not be running a shop - they clearly don't like people and have no idea how to deal with them. One of the most disturbing and unpleasant experiences I have ever had in a shop.

The lady working there is definitely nicer than the bloke. The supplies themselves are a little pricy in comparison to some other art supply stores, but for the location and range, they're okay.

Rude owners who when we visited a month ago ignored us to continue their discussion of how they didn't like Egyptian people. Expensive, rude/no service and we definitely won't be returning.

Decent range of art supplies let down by miserable, dour staff.

Good selection of higher end art supplies but the pricing is surprisingly high. I prefer to buy local, and am willing to pay slightly more in order to do so, but this shop exceeds my tolerances. Costumer service is lacking/absent. My experiences (over 15 visits and a few phone enquiries about stock) with the staff have found them anywhere from aloof to rude. The shop has the atmosphere of a library - with the dour staff emanating a sense of strict silence.

Whilst this is a run of the mill shop with reasonable stock, I should have known better than to go into an art shop in a tourist trap like The Shambles, however, I feel that I cannot let this atrocious standard of service pass without comment. I presume that the man I spoke to was the owner.If you work in an artist supply shop and you feel bitter about the fact that you do, look for something else to do where the public are not involved. Whether he thought that he was above dealing with the public I do not know, From what I saw this surely could not be the case.At one point he walked away from a woman who was asking a question, to carry on a conversation with some other person in the back of the shop.His attitude was a disgrace to the people who were in the shop. If you want artist materials, go somewhere else. A truly unpleasant experience,

What rude shop owners! Such a surly manner!

I popped into The Art Shop for a browse and I was looking for nothing in particular but the shop owners were very friendly and helpful, even though I hadn't bought anything!The shop is very well stocked and well organised, the prices of the products are at a cheap and affordable cost!There aren't many affordable art shops around these days and York is lucky to have one that sells specialist art equipment!
